911 coordinator

Why does Buchanan County need 2 people to do 1 job? When we had the bad snowstorm this past winter, W.J. Caudill the Director of the 911 system was no where to be found, and then we have a 911 coordinator position too. If you follow the link below it will tell you that the synonym for coordinator is director, so why do we need 2 different people doing whats supposed to be 1 job. W.J. needs to get his hand out of the cookie jar before it is slapped, and let Buchanan County have a fulltime dedicated 911 Coordinator/Director.

No W.J Caudill is the County Administrator, but is also Director of 911, and Greg Clevinger (now disappeared) was the coordinator, which makes no sense to have 2 people with the same job.

W.J. is the county administrator and emergency services director. That's not the same as 911 coordinator. Greg Clevinger was not involved in emergency services other than administering the 911 office. The E in E-911 stands for enhanced, not emergency. It makes sense that the 911 coordinator might also be the emergency services director but they're not the same position in Buchanan County and are two very different jobs.

W.J. has the emergency services position because the title means more money. W.J. doesn't have any direct involvement with 911, or at least any more than he has with other county offices. Kennth Ratliff is also involved with emergency services and the phone numbers given in the radio ads for contact during emergencies are at the administrator's office.

What educational background and experience does Mr. Caudill have that he has the job of emergency services director, and by this I mean education and experience directly related to emergency services, not sitting behind a desk collecting a fat paycheck, the job should be with someone with real experience.

Since your so knowledgeable about the administration of the 911 office, why are the dispatchers hired by the sheriff's department? Was the coordinators job only to supervisor the lead dispatcher, seems not seeing the sheriff hires and fires the dispatchers.

W. J. basically has no experience or specialized education regarding emergency services. He has the title because someone has to have it and it means more pay for him. What's competence or experience got to do with it? It's a county job after all. I think it's pretty obvious that not a lot of thought and effort have been put into emergency services for Buchanan County or we wouldn't had had the fiasco we had with last winter's blizzard. I agree with you, the position should be filled by someone with specialized training and experience in emergency services. I ought to be a multi-millionaire porn star but that ain't gonna happen either.

Some of the dispatchers are hired by the sheriff because of political considerations. Before the 911 office was formed the sheriff's office took care of all the dispatching. When 911 was formed the sheriff wanted to keep some of the dispatching jobs under his control. He may hire and he may fire but the daily oversight is done by 911. Then there's the addressing, signs, address updates, equipment maintenance and installation, working with the phone company, preparing funding requests, working with local, regional, and state agencies that are part of the E 911 system, and all of the other administrative duties that keep the information and equipment up to date and the 911 system working. Overseeing the dispatchers is a very small part of the job. And by the way, not all of the dispatchers are hired by the sheriff, just some of them.

The only point I was trying to make before was that W. J. is not the 911 director or coordinator or dispatcher or doctor or lawyer or indian chief. He's the county administrator and emergency services director. He's a few other things but I'll leave that to your imagination.

Nope, you are wrong. The Sheriff hires all the dispatchers and is over dispatch. 911 co-ordinator has nothing to do with the dispatchers.
