Why is the Virginia Mountaineer so long updating their website? Does the paper not still become available on Wednesday afternoon? Why is it Friday and you still cannot get the updated paper on the net. Just another example how Grundy can't get with the times....I think they need a new system and web director...

By the time the Virginia Mountaineer post something on their website it probably would have already been on topix already anyway.

When Cathy StClair quit the Mountaineer it went down hill. The one who took her place doesn't cover the board meetings (School and Board of Supervisors), never reports anything of interest. Reading a Sears and Roebuck catalog while on the toilet would be more informative. At least they are in color. To make matters worse they raised their prices. From now on I will just let someone else tell me if there is anything worth knowing about. It doesn't matter what day it comes out on, most everyone knows what is going to be in it anyway.

While some may not get the paper until Thursday by mail, it is available to those who want to pick up a copy in stores that sell the paper on Wednesday. At the very least then it should be available by web on Thursday...As of 10:00 p.m. Thursday night it was not available. If you are going to run a web site do it right or not at all.....

They only print what the SUPERVISORS allow them, and it really isn't much of a paper anymore. The voice is better although I think I could write a lot of good stuff.

The Mountaineer website is a joke anyways. Its takes sometimes as long as two weeks for the page to be updated and even then it never has the full story.
I love The Voice, and I know that its a lot of gossip..probably the reason I like it so good..lol
The Bluefield paper has a great online webiste site. You can read the full story and they also do afternoon updates on the headline storys.

I personally like The Voice. They may have began a little rough but I think it is about time there is more than one paper in this town. And what about the right of speech!! Other newspapers out of Grundy have their articles in full print on the web and they are making it. You can't even read the full stories the Virginia Mountaineer does put on the web. I say if The Voice wants to get ahead, now is the time. Put your paper on the web. It's time there is more than one of anything in Grundy.
Only one paper, only one grocery store, etc....

This is not exactly true. Not only do they print what the SUPERVISORS allow them to print, but they also print what the SCHOOL BOARD tells them to. The Mountaineer does not serve just one master.

Thats exactly what I was saying.
I too really like The Voice and now that I live in another state I would love it if they had a website so I could read their paper.

okay...the reason why they don't update the Mountaineer's website sooner is because it would take from their earnings. Think about it, would you buy a mountaineer if you knew it was going to be online the same day it was on the newsstands?

Whoever posted about Cathy St. Clair is right. The Mountaineer printed the Board (Bored) of Supervisors meeting minutes, not anymore. They covered the cases in Circuit Court (all of them) not just the ones that looked good for the Commonwealth Attorney. They covered all of the General District cases, not just ones that made the Commonwealth Attorney's office look good, not anymore. After Cathy left you are either in the dark or must sit in court or a board meeting to know what is going on. Why don't everyone stop buying the paper until they start printing the news again, all of it. Makes you wonder what they are keeping from the public and why!
