I know that times are hard and we are in a recession but please if you are a company like United Coal and you are gonna have to lay off the men. Then do your lay off with dignity don't lay off men that have been there 5 or more years and have dedicated there time and labor to you, then lay them off and keep men there that has worked less than a year, don't you have any morals what happen to seniority does that not exist anymore.

United Coal my father worked for them years ago then retired and my husband worked there until yesterday then he was laid off. The sad in all this is that they laid him off and transfer another man from another job to replace him and my husband has been there longer than this man now is that fair also rumor has it that they have laid men off and replaced then with men that has not worked a day on any of there jobs, that was hired before the lay off but never worked on a job site. What has happened to United Coal seems to me they need to get a new management team. Also hear that the new president came into the meeting blind sighted had no clue what was going on J McGlothlin where are you and what is going on with United Coal we know that the coal market is down but be fair to the men they are the ones that have worked to make the company billions

Oh I agree so much with you Outraged. My husband was also layed off yesterday form the Apollo mines in Harmon. I think that it is such a shame that things could not have been done no better than what they were. I also agree that they need a new management team. My husband was layed off and there were ones kept that had been there a shorter time than he was. Hell he was the EMT on the shift. But I guess as long as Tod and Gary have their jobs they could give a crap weather the men have one or not. My husband missed 3 days the whole time that he was there. I bet they are setting back laughing and telling us Marry Dam Christmas. They do not have to wonder what they are gonna do to feed their families. There is no fairness to the men. They have made the money for United and now they are tossed away. I would have been happy to have hours cut back instead of a layoff, but no they had to go ass backwards about it. My husband left there being owed quit abit of walmart cards that the men had worked out about a month and a half ago and never got. I guess they figured since they were getting layed off they did not need them or a christmas bonus. I would love to get enough wives together and all show up and let them know what they have done for us all. Well all I have left now to say to United is thanks for Nothing and Marry Christmas to you to.

This is terrible for any company to do this especially this time of year, I was just wondering if since these employees have already did the worked and earned these Walmart cards that sounds like part of their actual pay, can your family not take some type of legal action to get this money that is definately owed to you?

May God Bless these family's who are going through this difficult time!

Just T you have brought up a good point. Those cards are added to the paydays and taxed. So when my husband gets his last payday on Friday the 19th. We will be sure to look and see if the cards are on there before he leaves the office with his payday. Then go from there. Thank you for pointing that out. I would suggest that the other people check their paydays to see.

Guess the school system will not get a donation from Rapoca (Wellmore) this year to help the needy for Christmas.

I hear DSS is not helping anyone other than the foster children,CPS families and the nursing home/companion service cases either. What is one to do?

Move to Russell County. I saw on the news that that community gets lots of help from local businesses.

We have had several business to help those less fortunate, however, due to the poor economy not as many could help this year.

Grinch too how inconsiderate you are worried about the school getting a donation from United when more than 130 men were laid off that have families to support. Who gives a shit about a donation to Riverview how about beening fair to the workers at United Coal that were laid off friday they are the ones that need you sympathy not the school I could say much more to you but i will leave it alone and get back to the Topic. My blessing goes out to all that lost there job, including my husband it is unbelievable that a company like United Coal could care less about there employees that made there Billions just to lay them off at Christmas time, and beat them out of there Christmas bonus. Talk about unfair labor practice I can't believe that they laid off men that had more than 5 years to keep men that has been there less than a year i can easily say that there management team really sucks.

I think grinch too was just saying that in addition to those families that were effected by the lay offs, those less fortunate will definately be without as well, as there is no one to turn to for help, not even DSS!!

Thank you for clarifying, that was my point. More people are going to be without this holiday season and you can not turn to DSS for help as they can not help either!!

There are many organizations out there that help and churches included. What has the school ever done for the kids and the families, nothing at all and DSS is helping the kids of the less fortunate with Christmas.

Dingo,

How can you not feel bad for these employee's and their families? Many family was not affected by this, and no one in my family even works for this company, but anyone with a heart would have to feel bad for them. And as a parent of 2 children, I would be devastated as well if my husband or I were laid off work right before Christmas and have to explain to 2 small kids why Santa couldn't bring them the things they really wanted for Christmas, even though they had been good. It breaks my heart to just imagine someone in that situtation, especally someone who works for their money, instead of letting us tax payers support them. I have been at my job for 7 years and my husband has been at his for 11 and it is not right what has happened to these people. The employee's and their families are the one's suffering not the company, so how about feeing sorry for them instead.

Dingo what are you doing here? You usually are on the Bradshaw forum. Yes I do have ass. My name is Mary and my husband was layed off from United. I also go by Green Eyes on the Bradshaw forum. Dingo you really do not know the situation with this company. It was wrong what they done to our families. The way they went about it was wrong. They do need new management, hell they need a whole new everything. Believe me I have said nothing on here that I did not call and tell Gary Horn myself, but you know he never gave me a response. I guess he dont have time to fill sorry for the families of the men that were layed off. If United had any thing about them they would have gave a little warning and waited until after christmas. But no they have shit no morals or compassion. Like they say that is just the way the dam ball bounces.

My name is Tonya, not that it concerns you, but that still makes you a COLD-HEARTED MONSTER!!! Maybe one day you'll be in their position and hopefully people will have more sympathy for you than you do for others.
