It now appears that Mr Obama has just about destroyed the coal industry as promised. Anyone who would vote this idiot Muslim in dont deserve a damn job. Move to the mideast or Venzuela if socialism dependent on government to run your life then go for it. I think this country will be in another civil war between the has and has nots in this country. If Obama is re-elected

Seriously? First of all coal mines are pretty much the only jobs around here to get and they were also about the best paying. Second of all you are talking about a lot of families with children who lost their jobs today and no longer have a way to feed or provide for their families! Before you post on here to start drama why don't you think about the children and families involved in this. How would you feel if suddenly one day you lost what was keeping your family fed and clothed and your bills paid? Some people... geez.

Everybody is heartsick and heartbroken and worried sick for everyone, their families, their children, their grandchildren, their neighbors and so on. All we can do is pray that God will move mountains, and HE CAN!!! That is the answer...

Agree with you "heartsick" but we can't just pray withut action. We must survive somehow and this just isnt working. So tonight, I will pray but I will pray for a change and the courage to make i through.

ReallY?
Didn't those EPA regulations on power plants just get overtuned the other day? Wasn't this what all the big companies were getting their employees to stand up and support? Didn't they say they had your back? Then why are they pulling back now? Aren't they going to stand with you through the tough times? No, because the money to be made right now is not in thermal coal but metallurgical coal needed to make steel and these mines do not produce that type of coal.
Chief Executive Officer Kevin Crutchfield told News 5 today that Alpha will cut production 16 million tons by early 2013 and reduce overhead by $150 million as it shifts away from thermal coal used in domestic power generation to concentrate on metallurgical coal used in steelmaking overseas. Globally, "there remains a structural undersupply" of metallurgical coal, Crutchfield said, and Alpha expects to see demand grow by more than 100 million tons by the end of the decade.

It's has and always will be about corporate greed.

So it looks like the truth of the matter is that they really don't have a use for the coal and the miner in this area any longer because that's not where the money is. Well why the hell not?
Isn't coal an essential part of our daily lives and a much needed resource for generating heat? Doesn't "Coal Keep the lights on?" I mean that's what everyone around here has been shoving down our throat forever. So how is that "Friends of Coal" sticker on your back windshield working out for you? Will it put food in your mouth? Check it out, maybe it's a scratch and sniff.
They will make it

I did lose my job of 15 years last year due to a bad economy. I had it hard while I watched coal miners spend money like their was no tomorrow taking their family vacations to Myrtle Beach and Disney World. I said there would be a day when they would wish they'd put back some for a rainy day. What goes up must come down as they say so I guess they'll just have to sell their RV campers and 4 wheelers and buckle down for the long haul. Remember, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

And just what does Obama have to do with the layoff here seeing how the coal in this area is used to make steel and nothing to do with the EPA regulations of power companies. Try to educate yourself a little bit before you post something stupid.
