<quoted text> but you know what Why is it Food City fault that the small businesses are struggling. if i owned a company and my business is too make money for the employee owners and i let the competition take over my building, then i would deserve to be fired. it is not food cities business to take care of the other small businesses it is their business to make my retirement grow. thats right i work for them and i could care less about your cumberland road. if they are not making it on cumberland let them move
business sense and community sense is two different things here. Bottom lines matter but at what cost? You probably do not know this but that store had a lot of foot traffic from the college forms up the street, those kids would usually stop at the other businesses along the way. Now they have to get on the highway and drive on the va side to grocery shop. Let's face it food city is just as dirty as Walmart .

mindy if you believe that last statement you made you obviously need help. have you never seen how wal mart goes to china and buys the factory and they house the employee and charge them if they stay there or not. so your other comment about an adult conversation you are having with the other person is now out the window because if you even particially believe that fcity is as dirty as wal mart then you are dumb enough to think Mork actually exists damn i cant stand stupid people who act like they are smart. nahnew nahnew

If you believe foodcity is a great company you should work for them a while and see for yourself. They suck the only thing they know is to cut more help and more peoples hours. They used to be a family company not anymore they are out of touch. I have proof they intentionally sold out of date meat in foodcity dont tell me thats the right thing to do. Their motto is run the best store in town so they make sure they are the only store in town. Thats why they did what they did in bluefield. Open your eyes folks everything is about money I dont care who you are.

I have wondered for years why they only have children working at the one in Claypool hill. I swear most of the managers look like they are 18. Usually they are polite and bag food correctly but I never see older people working the front. Maybe because food city mistreats them or maybe turnover is high.

. This goes back to me saying that a lot of items are expired. I also said they will stock items that expire that day or the next day and nothing else on the shelf. Usually it is not marked down and I will not pay full price for something not so fresh.

Welcome to the Obama economy. Everybody is cutting hours and staff so they won't have to pay health insurance and compete with walmart on price. These days you can't make a career out of working at a grocery store. Be better off learning a trade or finishing college. I've never seen anything out of date at fc, ive actually overheard workers comment about having to pull meat off the shelf if it is the best before date. Sounds like sour grapes…

Working a couple retrieving carts is fine probably only worked a couple days a week hard to see much in that amount of time. Plus things are a lot different now than when they were then it was a better company then. Mr.Smith is gone and things changed quck after that. It really lost the family mentality. Dont judge experiences you havent been apart of. Foodcity is a greedy company now they intentionally had our store sell out of date meat. Oh how far they have come.

As good as u deal with me I would love to see how you deal with customers no wonder foodcity is going to hell in a handbasket. Besides foodcity will hire anyone that can fog up a mirror thats the reason they came up with their new hrc position good thing you got in before that.

<quoted text>Totally agree. The country is in a continual recession yet everybody continues to support Walmart which has destroyed so many jobs in this country by demanding cheaper clothes and food from China and Mexico. Even with food despite pink slime, horse meat, etc. I don't know how people eat anything from walmart and there's a national cost to shopping there. I buy what I can from food city and the rest from amazon because they do all those things 'do wa diddy' wanted, local produce, employee-stock ownership program, and so on much better than walmart and the other national chains.
There's a few who will try to pick on Food City and spew the hate-filled vitriol above for making business moves because they think Food City is small enough that it will hurt them as a local, small chain. There's a few upset in Bluefield because Food City won't spend millions to renovate and re-open a former Kroger building that went out of business because the populace chose to support Walmart in Bluefield, VA when it opened. The ironic part, by not shopping at food city they are supporting walmart which is the one that put the kroger out. In Morristown, several homeowners buy land near a busy thoroughfare and expect it to never develop. That's wishful thinking at its finest and if it were not food city making a business decision to develop the land it would be another company. Heck, it's not even food city it's a developer out of North Carolina that will shop it around to competitors if food city doesn't agree to it. They're making the best business decision on both instances.
Those Morristown residents are also concerned about increased flooding when the Food City project paves 30+ acres in a FEMA flood zone. 90% of the project is in the FEMA floodway.

To read more about the history of the proposed site in Morristown, check out www.masengillrezoning.blogspot.com . The thoroughfare you mention was not busy 40+ years ago when those houses were built. The land was farmland and zoned agriculture. The lower end of the field where Food City wants to build was marshy and thought to be unbuildable. FYI.
