Be greatful that some prosperity is available to the county These young people bring a $$$$ infusion and constructive thought to a most desperately deserving county. Be optimistic. The County's future depends on new thought and new ideas.

I'm actually considering going there, and since this is the Grundy forum, I thought maybe I could get more of an insight about the institution. I do agree that the school is probably very profitable for Grundy, with people renting and spending money at the businesses.

Like anything, it is what you make of it. Some folks focus on what is wrong with a place. Others make the most of any situation. Depends on what kind of person you are.

ASL will provide you with all the skills you will need to be a good attorney. What it will not provide you is connections. If you expect to rely on others to do the heavy lifting and open doors for you, then go to a school which cares about that. If you are a hard worker, then ASL will work for you.

As for the community, don't come here and start to complain about how there isn't anything to do. If you're here for school, then be here for school. If you are here to party and socialize a lot, then this will not be the best place for you. If that is your priority though, then maybe law school isn't going to be right for you, generally.

Regardless, you will have to determine what your priorities are and then find the school that best works with them. Such is life. I just finished here at ASL and have no complaints. But, I'm not a big complainer either.

I was born and raised in Pikeville, so I basically thrive in a small town. "Not being a lot to do" really doesn't bother me. I'm not a party person AT ALL.. I've actually never partied in my life. As far as connections go- I already have them! lol! I wanted to go to ASL because I'm not a big fan of huge, competitive schools that are cut-throat. I've heard it's a good school. Thank you for your input!=)

Appalachian School of Law is a very good school. It will give you exactly what you need to thrive in your career as a lawyer. Sure we are small town, but ASL offers this education at a much lower cost than you will find anywhere. You will be very pleased with the school and the environment.

Are there a lot of students that attend? Like, do they have large or small classes? Also, how easy is it to get a NICE apartment in Grundy? I have pretty high standards! lol!

a big issue with coming to grundy is that the landlords have artificially inflated the rental prices. when i came here 3 years ago i started paying more for a 2 bedroom house here than a three bedroom house in the city i came from. most of my friends are from college towns and cities and we have never had to pay so much in rent. i even lived outside of NYC and paid less than i do here. the landlords are crooks, the places are in ever shambles, and the locals blame us, the students, for the highers prices when they cant afford to rent a place in town. Also the school does not factor this into your costs when you apply for financial aid so we all run out of money early each semester unless you have roommates which is very hard in this environment.

Its a very small school from my understanding of the school, including touring and knowing students who attend/have attending there, the class rooms are very small, you will be very one on one with your professors. As for apartments: I will be honest with you there is only one apartment complex that is within your standards, just be honest hopefully not sounding mean. I'm not sure what they are named but the big blue ones on Slate Creek, are brand new, very nice and would be where I myself (another high standard person) would live. Hope that helps, have a blessed day!

Check with the school's Student Services office for possible listings. Some students may want to sublet. I'll make a Facebook posting indicating your interest. I'll tell students to post sublets with Student Services. Good luck in PASO. It's a great headstart.

He was accepted this year and we have been residing here since august. We were lucky enough to find a nice small 2 BR 1 BA apartment w/ all the utilitys, phone, and garabage pickup included for 600 a month. We were very fortunante because it was nearly impossible to find a place where they allowed pets. Good luck to anyone attending. And thanks for the feed back.
