Well that would be a real good question to present to the Board or even better do Freedom of Information request and have it published in a local paper that is willing to tell all

If published, why not the teacher's name and school; what they are currently teaching and EXACTLY what they're certification is. There are teachers who are teaching in areas they are not certified for.

You can look it up on the Va State Board of Education. Every teacher in Va has their licence info.

What gets me is one teacher can get a job then get their mother, wife, sister, dog, cat and everyone else in their family a job at the same school.. From what I have heard one teacher who works at the hurley elem/middle school got his mother and wife a job there and is lobbying to get his sister a job there teaching as well.. Talk about one family getting all the jobs. Some of the teachers in the county that supposed to be certified to teach have no more education then the average person and yet hold jobs over certified people because of who they know or who they blow.

I totally agree, it's the same there at Riverview A decent amount of those working there are in some kind of relation. It's getting to be that it's not how qualified you are, but who you know.

That has to do with the people in control of the school board Tom and Joyce make sure their gamily members are in key positions. They need to retire and let some one elese take over.

Yes some teachers work till they cannot work no more and do not give up their positions and let other people get a chance at a job, and when one position does open someone is already in line that is a family member or relative or friend of the person retiring... It is pretty much the same way in the coal mines.. I know people who got all their cards, cpr cards, experience and all and some kids right out of high school get jobs driving caterpiller equipment with no experience at all..

From your title to the comments on this particular thread, how can you question the school system when you are unable to competently complete a sentence or a subject line?? Leave the school system alone until you are smart enough to question it. Obviously, most of the posters on this thread are not well educated enough to comment on teacher certifications. Just read the thread, it tells the story. How dare you all question teacher competence when you cannot structure a sentence!!!! Pitiful....it should be Buchanan Co Schools, not a possessive. You get an F, poster. Get off your high horse, go back to school and then question certifications..lol

Actually, I was taught by instructors with PhDs. I went to college after attending Buchanan Co Schools with all those "incompetent and uncertified" teachers and have both a Bachelors Degree and a Masters Degree (for those who don't know, that is six years of school AFTER high school). Thus, Buchanan Co Public School teachers must have done a good job teaching at least some of us.

Sorry, you are wrong. I went to VA Tech and Lynchburg College and you cannot buy degrees from either of those schools. I work in the insurance industry, much more money there than teaching school, lol. Not stupid enough to continue to live in Buchanan Co, I live on Smith Mtn Lake!!!

If you are teaching in the public school system you should have to display your certification like other professional people like doctors, dentist, etc....have to do! Moreover, I am totally in favor of teachers being required like other professionals to take continuing education in their field and pass further testing to make sure they are updated on new information they need to teach...and like others they should be drug tested and subject to random drug testing and well as a background/criminal check required. After all....they spend a very significant amount of time with our children...Our children deserve the best and most qualified to give them their education!

Many are now finding because of the lack of discipline among both students and the fact that many teachers are poor role models even when it comes to morality that the public school system is no longer a fit place for their children. For centuries children were educated by personal tutors or private schools....Home Schooling is a great alternative...and if done correctly your child will have a better education! Public Schools don't offer a very good education anymore!
