was another good example of why the Voice can not be considered a newspaper, but is in reality a tabloid.

The articles about the RICO case were totally one sided. Did anyone else notice that when the article had the statements of the people that testified, they printed only the answers that were given when the defendants lawyer was examining them?

The Voice did not report much on the County's lawyer's questioning, except at the very end. So you all who read it and believe every word are only getting the side that EC and JS wants you to hear.

The county's position was not represented in that article.

EC is a puppet for JS/Vansant Lumber and PJ. Don't you see those full page ads in every tabloid he publishes? If he wasn't keeping them happy he would not be getting his ad revenue from them.

I know many of you don't think the VA Mountaineer does a good job, but at least they reported on both sides of that trial and not just the one the guys in jail wanted you to hear.

It is very obvious who EC is a puppet for. That is why you see so many one-sided articles in his paper. There are more than JS, believe me. Take DT for instance!

The Voice is a great newspaper, the only thing is people don't want the truth and the editor gets the truth. Some people like to keep it all hush hush but not Earl, he tells it like it is. Great Newspaper and keep up the good work Earl.

The Voice is a joke of a newspaper that is much more akin to the National Enquirer than it is valid news. The Voice merely panders to the paranoid people in the county who think "everyone is out to get something over on me". There is no journalistic intergrity here...it's a waste of money.

Actually, the Enquirer employs "real" journalists! The Voice gets convicted felons and rejects that failed at other ventures! ie.: Earl- failed restauranteur and pooper-scooper, Phillip- Drug dealer and ex-con, Gordon- just oozes loser/con man, Bobby May- General failure at life!(and elections)

Hey, maybe they could hire me! I tell the truth. Whadduya think?

I agree with ya Heathen...plus, the whole "Square Deal" segments that used to run in that paper (or may still run, I don't know because I don't waste my 50 cents) is horrible. Why would you want to glorify an old drunkard crook who thinks his life is so interesting that he needs to write about?? I'm sure he makes up half the stuff he writes about anyway. His grammar is horrible and has no place in a "newspaper". I'm glad he thinks he is so cool...because he's the only one.

I gotta tell you, The Voice is one of my "guilty pleasures". I LOVE to read it - just for the hysterical gossip, fear mongering, consipracy theories and general sillyness.

The unsigned letters to the editor are the best part.

Sometimes, I just sit there with a red pen and circle all the spelling/grammar/syntax errors.

Either way,(love him or hate him) Earl provides an entertaining product!

My God...he does not provide he truth...he provides rumor and paranoia....and should he hit on something that were true...all i can say is....a blind squirrel will find a nut every now and again.

his journalistic intergrity is crap. hell, he has a page dedicated to his OPINION only....basically it says "I heard this...and I heard that...what if....blah blah blah". This is a paper that the uneducated can buy into and accept as truth because....it's easy to buy into.

It's not entertaining....it's a joke and more people make fun of this "newspaper" than praise it.

BigRockGirl97 -- You are SO right. The Voice is a total travisty. It is a joke, and it never fails to amaze me how many people actually think this "paper" is anything more than a gossip rag (and a poor one at that!). The apparent support for this paper throughout the community is incredibly telling regarding the number of gullible and uneducated people in this area. It's quite sad, actually.

I think The Voice is not only totally worthless in terms of newsworthiness, it is also a bit scary in the fact that so many people actually consider Earl Cole's tripe to be legitimate. I used to think the paper was just junk, merely fodder for a few laughs, until a year or so ago when someone told me Earl Cole was actually offering a fairly sizable amount of money for people to come forward with the names of people (I imagine he was primarily targeting teachers and other who work with children) who had allegedly molested or behaved in a sexually inappropriate manner with minors. While I absolutely believe the victims of sexual abuse need to come forward, this was a potential tragedy waiting to happen if someone just wanted to accuse somebody they didn't like in order to collect the reward. To me, that was beyond dispicable.

People in the community do not realize how many girls/women are being sexually abused in the schools/workplaces. They are verbally abused constantly. People need to take a stand and if a little incentive is what it takes than go for it. It is amazing that how all this is covered up....smoothed over....by people in administrative positions. If it was your family member than your viewpoint would change.

I do not doubt that there are far too many people of BOTH sexes (although, admittedly, more women and girls than men and boys) who are sexually harassed or verbally/physically assaulted in the workplace or at school. These people should come forward, and I am certainly not insinuating that they shouldn't.

HOWEVER ... do you honestly not see the potential problems with a newspaper -- one that is widely known (at least amongst those people who have the ability and desire to think for themselves) for sensationalizing news stories and twisting them into nothing more than yellow journalism -- offering a blanket cash reward for people to come forward with the names of people who have allegedly sexually harrassed/assaulted/molested them? Perhaps only people with legitimate complaints would have come forward, but what about that one person who was looking to destroy somebody's reputation and make some easy money in the process? Tactics such as this create more victims than they help.

The bottom line is, that was an extremely unprofessional and ill-thought-out thing for The Voice to do, and it is but one example of why this "paper" is not legitimate in any way.

Yes, he does tell the truth and or least he tries to get to the main reason of things. He does not hide anything. What about when he put in there was there any students being harrassed by teachers, that they should come forward. I think this is great. I think if we have teachers or any other guardian that would molest or hurt kids it should be told. He also tells the community actions and the things that go on in the area. Yes it is a good paper, maybe your name was in there for doing something bad, guess you better straighten your tail up. Right?
