The arrogance of the Oregon-Davis varsity girls coaching staff continues to elevate as they displayed unethical scoring against the 0-18 Michigan City Marquette Blazers Tuesday evening. A defensive press applied throughout most of the 1st quarter produced 20 turnovers and a 29-0 Bobcat lead, until Rosie Wall scored the Blazers first bucket with 10 seconds remaining in the first Quarter. The bobcats continued to “run up the score” by totaling 82 points. Given the fact that if you were to shoot 100% as a team, in a game that has only 32 minutes to be played, you would be shooting the ball every 46.8 seconds without the other team ever gaining possession. How much is enough? Does this actually display the sportsmanship that was intended with the induction of High School sports in Indiana?
“Our regular seven played pretty good,” Minix said.“Our bottom five struggled for awhile, but it was a big crowd, and I hope they understand that that’s sectional time in Indiana. This game was good for confidence. We got through it healthy, and everybody’s getting confidence.

I hope that the lessons learned by exploiting an offense against a 0-18 team are important enough to exempt ethical and moral consciousness.

Grow up if they would have held back then the other team would have felt like they where patronizing them.I dont care what you say all teams play to win, thats why they call it competitive sports

Color it any way you want, this is poor sportsmanship. This is why they have a mercy rule in softball. He could have practiced passing, 3-point shooting, halfcourt shots, etc., instead of defensive pressing. Anyway, what do you learn pressing a team that doesn't know how to break a press? You learn nothing - you just beat up on some less talented kids. The coach is an idiot.

My stance was ethical conduct in high school sports.

You state:“Grow up if they would have held back then the other team would have felt like they where patronizing them.I dont care what you say all teams play to win, thats why they call it competitive sports “

Competition focuses on winning and losing. The game was effectively won in the first 8 minutes. While I don’t necessarily believe that you should drastically change your overall game plan at that point, I do believe that you remove the defensive press until the team is within 15. At 0-18, I seriously doubt that this would happen. If so, you simply reapply the press.
Patronization is an intimidator’s justification for their actions. Under the circumstances of this scenario, it appears as if the intimidator requires accountability for their ethical choices.
