a law saying that these "contractors" only get paid day by day for the work thay do and if thay need a advance for materiles the client shoud go with them to get it so if something cost $20 thay dont get charged $40 for it!

There are plenty of laws and this guy broke most of them. People need to realize that they do not pay until the work is completed, period. But of course there is a sucker born every minute and two to take them.

I was taken for $5600 by a contractor but I was told I had to file a civil case since he did some work. I contacted the BB, the Attorney General and filed a police report. The detective told me that if the person even drops off material you can not press charges. Since this has happened the contracter is now homeless somewhere. I am out the money and raising my 3 grandchildren on my salary. My house is fallin apart and I have to come up with the money AGAIN to get the work done!$5600 is a LIFE savings for me.

There are a lot of these guys around our country that do these exact same type of scams and they are called "travelers". This guys problem is he stayed in the same area. He deserves to spend some time in prison.

There is no way I'd give him 6500 dollars to put up some drywall. Give him some to buy supplies and the rest when he's done. Never give a contractor all the money in advance. That's just stupid. What happen's if the work isn't to your liking? Yea, you're screwed.

I agree. I designed and contracted my basement getting finished and I gave each sub-contractor a draw at 3 different phases. The third phase was at completion. You are just asking for trouble giving them money up front. An old neighbor of mine was the electrical sub-contractor on my basement and I had to chase him down for 2 weeks to complete the electric.

I was one of the people who was taken by this worthless piece of crap. I had went on the BBB website to see if they had any info on him and saw nothing. After he quit showing up I called the BBB and was informed that they don't always put everything on the internet. I filed a court case against him and was awarded everything that I had paid him, but haven't seen a dime because he doesn't know what it means to work for something he only knows how to steal it. Before going to court I started to do some more digging and found out that he had done this before and also that he was a heroin addict. To say that he is a waste of space is an understatement. An article in the Marysville paper last week stated that he is facing up to 53 years in prison. I say hang him and be done. He has had too many chances already and I hope that they fry him!! I was raised to work hard for what I have and now this white trash hilligan has taken alot from me and many others. My dad has a small business and I wanted to believe that the "small guy" was a good option. Obviously all small guys aren't like my dad. Lesson learned.

I have about 3 friends and a couple of aquaintances that are contractors and they are all very honorable and on the level guys. They work off of word of mouth referrals. There are only a few con men contractors around and you are right they do give the industry a bad name. That is the same in any business you always have a few rouges that give the rest of the honest people a bad name.

I used to do remodeling/contracting work.
My policy was...
I paid for supplies and then gave the client the bill for reimbursement.
I got paid for the work I HAD ALREADY DONE each week...Provided the client was HAPPY with my work.
I did this even though I was a broke single person and it made for some hard times.
But my clients were always happy and paid.
If your contractor is not willing to do this
THEN DON'T HIRE THEM!!!!!

Excellent post. I can't imagine giving some guy I don't even know a check for $6500 and trusting him. I don't even trust my own mother.

And from what I remember she doesn't charge anywhere near $6500.

Yes Jereme is a very very bad person. Almost 2 years ago my Boyfriend Jereme Wiertel worked for him. He never payed him and not only that he stole over 200.00 dollors from me while im 9 months pregnate. He is nothing to me or my family he needs to be put in prison for what he has done. He would also use people's bathrooms to shoot up drugs. My boyfriend whent to one of the guys home that they were working on and told the guy what was going on. And My jereme said that he would help him free of charge to get the things fixed that the other jeremy messes and left undone.

Stop going for that low ball estimate and you won't have half of the problems you do.

The B.B.B> is powerless and make their money off of the very people you are complaining about .Who do you think they will take up for?You or the firm or business paying $800 to $20,000 a year to be a member?
Angie's list is a wolf in sheeps clothing also, they try and get contractors to sell memberships to their customers,She pimps out the very people she is supposedly bird dogging for her paying members.

How does a business become listed with the BBB? This is something that should be investigated.
