Please don't pave any more old RR trails. Crusher-run stonedust is much better than gravel on horses hooves, and asphalt pavement is very hard on horses legs.

Pavement is for walking, running, and cycling not for riding a horse. People do not want to be dodging horse crap on these trails there is plenty of room for horses to go.

I'm thrilled they're thinking about this again. When the Groton-Pepperell first began, I rode a horse out there and it was a blast. Never had an issue with horse patties on the trail but stepping in dog poop is way worse. It's everywhere. And smells way worse!!!

This will be such a great project, lets hope they are able to pull it off, pave it and make it passiable for bicycles as it is intended. If necessary, post it against ATV's, snowmobiles and horses .

Hopefully the NIOBY folks will not stop it.

The rail trail is such a great idea, i know most of Timberly Park would welcome it. It would be wonderful to ride or walk to the center of town without a long roundabout way or being on such a busy street with no sidewalks. I also believe horses should be allowed, come on next you will want to exclude dogs.....

@Horse Rider: I believe that a rail trail through Townsend, if there ever is one, will be crushed stone, not paved.

People also don't want to be dodging the TRUCK LOADS of trash that are picked up & hauled out of the current local rail trail systems. The old train tracks, in their current state, are already everyone's personal dumping ground.

It's easy to understand why NIMBY (not NOIBY, by the way) folks would not want it to exist. Some people aren't too interested in dogs crapping & people dumping their trash all over their lawns.

Sorry Jim. I'm with you but J Gabrilska is against it and she went to Fitchburg State!

@Bozo (what an appropriate name for you)

Nowhere in my response did I say I was against it. Instead, I merely listed why others might not be interested. Actually, I am in support of it - provided that certain conditions are met.

& I have no idea why you feel the need to keep insisting I went to Fitchburg State. Because I didn't, but I am sorry that you choose to use it as an insult.

I would love to see this happen. I also understand why people who live along it would not want it. I had 50 acres of conservation land behind me (realtor told me that when buying home) but only to find out 7 yrs later that it was privatly owned and now there are houses there. i hated it at first but now i just deal with it. the rail trail would add to Townsend for the residents and the visitors. it would be awesome for Timberly park residents to be able to walk or ride to the common without being on a main street without sidewalks. I hope to see it happen.
