Dear Editor: A Groton Center Zoning Strategy
A number of issues relating to Groton's town center, including zoning proposals in the draft Master Plan, have been under discussion recently.

I totally agree with Bob Pine's letter. Groton has always revered it's visual landscapes and natural beauty and it should try to continue to do so. We should not create a more dense town center with buildings that would obstruct the landscape that visitors come to see and enjoy. We should not take these treasures for granted.

I think there is room for both. Development is vital to the civicness of the community, but preservation needs to be considered in the process. I feel both can be achieved.

The "civicness" of the community depends on the people who live in the community, volunteerism and, yes, entreprenuership.
Development and preservation can be achieved but without steamrolling projects. Public monies should not be invested in private enterprise projects like this Boynton Meadows deal. Look what happened with the Curt Schilling-Rhode Island mess.
I like our center the way it is and have shared in surveys that I would appreciate some light development as was planned for Station Ave. Lots of us take great pleasure in the views along Main St. They are part of what gives Groton its New England charm!
