'John Doe' Found Dead on Belle Isle
#1 Jan 18, 2012
I'm confused of why family and the media will not state the name or show a photo of the missing man? My boyfriend is just a few years younger than the missing man, and grew up in GP. He thinks it would be very helpful to the family if the public knew who this man is. Something just doesn't seem right to me, or am I just crazy?

Often, the police investigate these type of deaths and attempt to identify the deceased through other methods such as fingerprints, dental records, DNA, etc. Notifying the family prior to the conclusion of their investigation can cause two problems. 1) if they error with the identity of the body, the family will have suffered distraught and most likely file a lawsuit against the authorities. 2) the family often delays the investigation with constant interruptions.
Bottom line, they prefer to ensure the proper paperwork before releasing information. In other words, makes sure all the I's are dotted and the T's are crossed.
