Volt is certainly an attractive vehicle for a certain segment of upper middle class buyers. And with up to $10,000 inf tax credits in the U.S. it makes sense for other car companies to want to get in on the action. Of course a majority of the car buying public in the U.S. and an even larger portion in the rest of the world doesn't have a garage so they are not potential buyers. But even more interesting is that the typical used car buyer is even less likely to have a garage so it will be interesting to see what happens when these vehicles get to be 3 years old which is the point where the typical upper middle class buyer is likely to sell, trade or get a new lease.

I get a kick out of the talk about public charging stations too. In the area where I live and I'm sure many others, the cords would be stolen for their copper within a week or two. Of course I'm sure for many upper middle class areas this wouldn't be a problem.

I wonder a bit about the demographic for the Volt buyer and the EV buyer in general. I've read but not been able to substantiate that the average Volt buyer has a household income around $150,000. I did see a USA article that puts the average EV buyers income at over $100,000 in the U.S. I'd guess that EV households average more than 2 cars as well. I'd also guess the percentage of Volt owners who own Apple computers is quite high compared to the overall population as well.

If you're buying for yourself, a couple nice things about the tax credit are that of course you have to have enough income to be able to take the credit, and then you have to have the level of income to be able to wait for up to a year to take advantage of it.

I know there's a bunch of upper middle class people that think this sort of vehicle is the future, but I don't expect they really have a very clear idea how most of the world lives.

But, the Volt is NOT a flop. It's selling quite well in it's intended market. There's a reason U. S. News and World Report has ceased publishing.

Enough with the Chevy Volt propaganda campaign, the election is over. The car is an ill-conceived failure, and is only still being produced because of government welfare. Taxpayers should be outraged!
