My parents moved to Washougal from the heights area of Vancouver in 1949. Lived there until I graduated in 1958. During that time Washougal was a small country town. I remember Meads market just accross the street from where we lived. The old steam train that stopped at around three o'clock to pick up mail. Delivered the columbian and road
my bicycle all over town. Old town Washougal had
a lot of small business that has since gone out of
business. I have been driving to Neders Cafe for
breadfast from where I live in Longview, Wash. just for good food and old memories.
I miss the small ma and pa little business that made up most of the town. Meads. Danelsons food
and many many more stors always had a pleasent
enviornment to shop in-----but like always----things have changed. close personnel relations
and small town admistphere is no longer there.
The old ones like me and even older gererations have be repaced with new people who does not remember what Washougal use to be like. While having breakfast at Neder's the other day,I only
met one person who remembers the good old days and she was delighted to talk with me about how it was!
The old hight school-old jr hight school- down town and one stop shopping. Alljust seemed to dissapear......
We took those years for granted and we both with
we could go back and relive these nestalgic years
over again. by the way our ring was three long rings. when the bell telephone were more like Maberry tv program......Any one elese who lived these years in Washougal please let me know what you thougt. By the way Jonny Fay charged a $1.00 and hr. to rent his hourses....a lot of money then!
