Do you people not realize that even though you reply on here "anonymously" that the POLICE can trace your IP (internet Providers) number stright to your name address etc. IP addresses look like this ( 214.234.766.098 ) and are nothing more than a homing device on your current address.. If you will read the TOPIX rules and regulations, at request they will provide YOUR IP address to police or Federal Govt. Its easy to get on here and cut someone to the bone and slander them or create a deformation of character. Bottom Line..Its illegal.. You can and will get prosecuted for slandering another person if that person decides to pursue it. the penalty is severe.. Youre not safe as you think you are.

Lets get back to the good things going on in Greenwood and let whoevers in charge of whatever allegations or charges do their jobs. Most of you people slinging mud have 2nd hand (or worse) information and most likely its false bullshit anyhow. I for one and thinking of contacting police and getting a few of these mud slingers put up on charges.

Old news Tip Top. Someone posted that same information during the heated run-up to the Nov election. Just have them read the Terms of Service at the bottom of this page. Someone actually responded that you can say "anything" you want about a person if they are in politics! I'm thinking they are really surprised in a couple of months.

Your IP address only leads back to your internet provider. They can't track down individuals with just an IP address.

I can promise that your IP address will lead the police straight to your front door. Unless your are stealing wireless from a neighbor that has an open line. The police also have to have reason for a subpoena for the IP.

I think you meant to say "a search warrant". I went and read the Topix Terms of Service. It's very clear that you will be identified if law enforcement needs it. Your IP address is assigned to that little modem plugged into your wall. You cannot hide it.

I love all your FUCKIN' newbies who think you know shit...and I quote:

"Determining the nation of an Internet user based on his or her IP address is relatively simple and accurate (95%-99% percent) because a country name is required information when an IP range is allocated and IP registrars supply that information for free.

Determining the physical location down to a city or ZIP code, however, is more difficult and less accurate because there is no official source for the information, users sometimes share IP addresses and Internet service providers often base IP addresses in a city where the company is basing operations."

Hiding an IP address is like wiping your asss. Do it right and nobody notices.

Isn't that what Topix was made for? Well, even if it wasn't that's what it's become.

So join in, become an expert!! The more outrageous you can make it the more "believable" it will be. Or you can do like most people who post here and try to convince yourself it's believable.

I don't know where any of you get your information, but for what's it's worth I'll give you my two cents. And, by the way, my "two cents" is based on years of knocking on the doors of "Internet Users" based solely on their IP addresses.

The truth is this and quiet simple. YOUR IP ADDRESS CAN BE TRACED TO YOUR FRONT DOOR, PERIOD!

Now, there are always going to be issues such as the end user utilizing a "wireless" network; either at home or let's say, McDonald's, then you have to resort to additional tracing and eventually obtaining the MAC address of the computer that you are looking for...but yes, it can be done and is done every day by law enforcement. Hiding behind a computer can ONLY be done if you DO NOT give law enforcement a reason to have to find you.

I will even go out on a limb here and say this: There will be some type of revelation about users on the "Greenwood Forum" in the near future and those of you that think you know about IP Addresses...well, I hope you have a good attorney.

I smell bullshit.

If you can use my IP address and identify who I am, then do it.

Print my name and address on here right now.

About the best you or anyone else can do is narrow it down to an area. For example, anyone on Cox has an IP address that traces out to the Cox office just down the road from Rheem.

I don't live or work at the Cox office. In fact, I don't even officially live in the city limits of Fort Smith.

Come and find me, Mr. Door Knocker.
perhaps not

I'm still waiting for you or the door knocker to post my name and address.

You live in Greenwood, and I'm a moron?

I've seen Amish quilting parties with more life in them than Greenwood has on a Saturday night....

You just posted that you don't actually live in the city limits of Fort Smith, but your location shows to be "Fort Smith". Yet, you question a poster for living in "Greenwood" because their location shows "Greenwood"? Who is the moron again. It's a rhetorical question...I don't need an answer.

It is possible the poster lives outside the city limits just as you. However, your invitation to "knock on" your door or post your name and address is impossible without law enforcement taking action based on an illegal activity. You are correct though, since I am not a policeman, I will not be knocking on your door; however I do know the process of obtaining a "real address" by tracing an IP number. And should you decide to cross over to the other side...as I said earlier; I hope you have a good lawyer.

But, if you continue to invite lay persons to your door or prove themselves worthy by tracing your IP to your door-step...that's not going to happen...so I guess you win. Yiiipppeeee!!!!!

Which goes to prove my point. When I post from work (which is in Fort Smith) the location under my name says "Mountainburg"...

So like I said, unless there is criminal activity involved and the police are doing the tracing,90% of the "internet police" can't even find what neighborhood I'm in, much less the street. I also have acess to three internet providers, so my IP address can change at an instant.

Even if it's the police, they might be able to figure out an approximate longitude and latitude, but Bill Gates himself can't narrow it down to an individual address.

So yeah, I win. Yipeeeee!

You are so wrong..everytime you send or receive BYTES, incoming or outgoing you IP signature is sent..Dont care how many providers you have.. That IP belongs to YOU.. You registered for internet access, its got your name all over it.. Only thing that would save you is WIFI at mcDonalds or similar where you pickup free service. The End.. Grow a brain, know what your talking about before posting on here..
