What Barling need is either a strip club/bar/adult store or a water park/track/golf course/baseball fields and tennis courts of our very own! And with all of that we might as well raise the tax base a little so that we can build a new city hall and police station. Any investors we might get would totally be embarrassed at the conditions of our government offices....hello...outdated

just ask nosack how to loot the city taxpayers and then start counting the money as it rolls in. barling needs a convention center too because thats a real cash cow to keep all the vultures happy that love spending someone elses money. lived in barling years ago and think the city hall and police station adds a lot of character and also adds a historical flavor to the community but could use a little paint and other touch ups. go look at the fort smith historical site on garrison ave and see the beauty and preservation that can be accomplished when someone has vision like the former superintendent, bill black. your historic buildings could be a future tourist attraction because elvis may have spent time there!

What does that have to do with promoting the river. Did you get a little off track?

Oh I forgot you have a one track mind.

great community, great people, great location and on the arkansas river! does that answer your question "big bubba"? it ain't all about fort smith because some of their neighbor cities are much better communities and have more to offer for a whole lot less money. thought someone posted that is costs every man, women, and child a whop-de-do 3200.00 dollars to live in fort smith and thats higher than dallas texas where there is a lot more opportunity for good jobs and family entertainment!

I think that historically we look like are stuck in the 60's - 70's. We can always blend new and old architectural lines, but we need something to draw ppl here and keep them. Casinos, liquor, adult entertainment, theatres. Maybe even our own fair ground.

good comment plumbuckered! something needs to happen in fort smith that moves it forward! it lost 13,000 jobs and they need to be replaced with tourism jobs but what will bring people to a dying city? higher taxes are job killers and the wasted tax money at the convention center is gone gone gone. the marshals museum is a secondary draw but a casino hot spot with name entertainment would be an option and a lot of bikes, blues, and barbeque type events would start the ball rolling if you could get the police to relax a little and get your city leaders off their dead butts! my god, its all about dogs, cats, garbage, uncollected city money, wasted taxpayer money, and cronyism complaints on this web-site along with a high crime rate. that won't bring tourists to your city!

who rung you bell patriarch? jonesboro has no river and no major highway but has a 22% growth rate with lower taxes, free sanitation pick up, a city budget of almost 200 million dollars less than fort smith per year, more and better city parks, and no archies that think they are patrick, and tates that think they are citizen and number 6. with all of those multiple personalities, you should write a policy book on how to sell expensive garbage trucks to mickey mouse and thanks for asking about my cousins home city of jonesboro. you could move there and run for public office and hope george catsavis does not move there also and run against you.

Oh, wow! I never thought about ppl from other cities looking at this forum or looking at this forum as a means of getting information about where they might move to. But it is better to give them the straight up rather than sugar coat it.

With the affordability of a dying town and the growth of the baby boomers who are retiring, maybe the Riverfront should revamped and de-industrialized as a residential area for a retirement community with on site walk-in clinic among other amenities which would appeal to retirees and senior citizens. With Sparks Medical on the opposite end of the Central Business Improvement the central area could fill in with small businesses catering to seniors without evicting present businesses. Yes, even seniors patronize "romance boutiques, gay bars and loud music gin mills. Old bikers never die either, they just park it at home more often. Let their home be Fort Smith Riverfront Condos, Townhouses or Apartments. The Riverfront will never be attractive as long as railyards and warehouses and homeless camps exist there. Get Real!
