"The boy told his mother earlier in the day that the drain cover was loose and she told her children to stay away from it until it was fixed, according to the affidavit."
Doesn't a child's first line of defense start with the parents? It doesn't appear from the above quote from the article that the mother was all that concerned. If it were my children, they would not be allowed in the pool until it was repaired. Hence, the parents could have protected this child BEFORE a tragedy like this happened. I'm sure it was a terrifying moment for this poor child and the parents, but more attention needs to be paid to small children and you can't assume that they will listen to your every word. You have to watch them first hand.

I agree with both of the previous comments, which remind us all that the first line of preventing an accident of this nature involving a small child is that as a parent YOU have to WATCH that child!!! I always impress to my daughters, who each have a little child,is that YOU MUST WATCH THEM LIKE A HAWK!!!That said,I am saddened by the loss of this young child, and I wish his parents peace at the end of their grief. But I'm not sure all the blame should rest on the pool company.

From the article: Police said their investigation determined that a plastic safety cover for the filtration system came loose

It's too bad no one can tell us why the cover came loose. perhaps because the Cohn kid was messing with it? Let's see: 2 nannies and a parent watching, protective cover at the bottom of the pool, Cohn kid told not to go near the drain, parents did not know where the emergency cut-out switch was located. No oversight of the construction of the pool by the consumers. It appears to me that the parents are guilty of negligence, not to mention stupidity.

You guys all must be employees or friends of the particular pool company in question. Don't try to prove your case to us, prove it to the judge & jury.

Wow..this is a sad sight....no matter how closely you watch your kids...it only takes a second...
all of you have been very lucky.
My heart goes out to the Cohn Family. Hoping all their wonderful memories will, in due time, ease their unbearable pain just a little.
And without taking sides, to the pool company and all involved...i'm sure your pain is great. No one wanted this to happen...i'm sure most of you have children and this unfortunate accident sickens you deeply.
It's a very hard situation. I pray for all of you.

Here's an idea, listen to your kids. Every once in a while they know what they're talking about!
