Poor thing - but if a young man wants to die, which seems to be the case here, it's only a matter of time. Having BiPolar or Schizophrenia which is most likely the case, the propensity for 21 year old males to commit suicide is statistically quite high.

Poor kid. He seems desperate to escape his life.

The Drs. have a tough time controlling the ups and downs associated with being BiPolar..It is hard to get the right combination of meds. Then they will work for awhile and then a new combination must be tried..It is sad when people suffer like this. I hope he is found OK

so tired of seeing people post hate and ignorance on these comment sites. so sad to see so many people are such lowlifes. I hope things work out for this young man, it's a sad story. As for you hateful ignorate posters, wait until something like this happens to you--and you will know what it's like to be in such a sad predicament. What goes around comes around, oh yes, that is a sad thing about life. Treat others as you would like to be treated.

If he doesn't know the difference between the Ocean and the Sound it must have been a public highschool.

Hopefully they'll catch this poor guy and USE RESTRAINTS THIS TIME.

I agree, why waste the time looking for him? Do what you want, Peter! Run fast! Set yourself free! Just don't show up in my hospital because I hate taking care of failed suicide attempts...get it right this time!
And where does it say he's bipolar or schizophrenic?

No brainer is an apt description of you and your post. To post something like this is an indication you have no brain. Probably no soul either.

You are just as bright as him! Let see borna nd raised in Darien and went to high school in Greenwich! you can not go to public high school in a town unless you live in that town. That is sort of like knowing the difference between the ocean and sound! Should we put you on watch!

I think it's an interesting point.
In this case here, since this guy was in a mental hospital, his sanity is arguably in doubt, so maybe someone should try to stop him.

But what about people who are sane? Shouldn't we allow sane people to take their own lives, assuming that the method they choose can't put others in danger?

And to those who argue, "Well, if you want to commit suicide then you MUST be insane," I say BS. Just because we (supposedly) value our own lives doesn't mean we have to force others to put the same value on their own.

It's unbelievable how mental illness is still mocked so mercilessly these days. This isn't some brat who's out for attention. This is a young man who needs obvious help, and a father who just wants to know where his son is and that he's alive and safe. I really hope none of you ever has to suffer with a family member who has a mental illness. Just because you can't see a disease doesn't mean it isn't destroying everything in its path. These people deserve compassion and empathy, not sarcastic comments and stupid jokes.

Being on and withdrawing from SSRI's like the last jumper at exit 9 would increase the chance of the man doing things he normally would not do.

Well there is certainly no "mental illness disease", the man has issues needs some attention, guidance etc... Unless he is a complete nut case.

i'm Gregory's father

thank you, the great majority of commentators, for your compassion and thoughts and prayers

to "Equal Justice" and any like-minded folks, your comment is unbelievably mean-spirited and inhumane

Go on line and read some of the dozens of articles with more facts...our beautiful 21 year old boy is crying out for help and we can't find him

"Equal Justice," may nothing like this ever happen to you or any of your loved ones, as I wouldn't wish this even on my worst enemy

Mr. Hillman,

Please know that so many people in the community are praying and hoping for Gregory's safe and swift return. We can't imagine the pain you and your family are suffering through right now, but know that you are in people's thoughts, as is Gregory. Pay no attention to the people who are unmoved by your situation. The universe has ways of dealing with those people in its own time.

Stay strong, sir, and best wishes for a happy outcome to this painful time.

He was just looking for a free ride into the woods so he could go hiking and start a commune when he finds a good spot. Anybody want to join him?

I am sickened by the comments people are posting here. It's no wonder most of the world hates America, if this board is any indication. The staggering lack of compassion for this young man's life makes me worry about the next generation, the peers of Gregory Hillman. I hope they can see their way clear to being better than this.
