False River boat parade sails Friday

The 26th annual False River Fourth of July Boat Parade sets sail Friday.

Decorated watercraft and party barges cruise past the Marc Barker pier at noon, to be judged. Then, the parade proper begins at 1 p.m.

The theme of this year’s parade is “Pick Your Own Presidential Candidate,” and organizers say the candidate can be alive, deceased, or an animated sports hero or celebrity.

Parade founder Lionel Kleinpeter no longer directs the parade, but he is expected to be there to help judge and to award his Founder’s Trophy.

They might burn down the piers as they did the police station.LOL Chances are there is no extra money.

Anyway,my family and I had went to the parade armed with 600+ water ballons and ran out.OUCH!First time I was off work and many years.Anyway,we won best decorated small water craft.Wasn't planning on that!We did have a blast out there.If I'm off next year,we will go again.It look like everybody was having alot of FAMILY fun for once.

Congrats on your trophy! It was a fun day - just one big water balloon fight. Great fun! I live on the parade route and haven't missed a parade in many, many years. You're right, just good family fun.

When the weather turn,it only took me 5 mins to run to the New Roads end.Nice to cruise at 65mph!

The boat parade just isn't as much fun as it used to be. The most fun we had was before the parade during the judging. No one organized it like they used to do many years ago. The people on the piers get cheated. What happened to the organization of it? Someone told me the original family who started it quit and it has really gone down.
