While most of Huntsville is still asleep this morning, Mayor Tommy Battle and about 40 other civic leaders will climb aboard a bus bound for Greenville, S.C. I posted this in the Moving to Greenville forum by mistake. It really belonged here.

I have lived in north Alabama most of my life but I have lived 4 yrs in Spartanburg and another 4 yrs near Greenville in Taylors. Yes there are bad and selfish drivers there (and back stabbers, too) but there are worse here in Huntsville. But there are some very good people in the Upstate, too. Back when I lived in SC, I read that Huntsville was looking to Chattanooga for inspiration to revamp downtown. So I sent the group a letter or two telling them to look at Greenville because they have very similar backgrounds (former textile industries), size (Greenville-Greer-Spartanburg is similar to Huntsville-Madison-Decatur), makeup of people (locals and imports), etc. While I found Greenville to have more of an industrial base, Huntsville is more high tech thanks to military and NASA support and their spinoffs. But Huntsville's downtown development is like Greenville's before the Reedy River and Main Street upgrades. It's a shame. And Huntsville is nothing like Chattanooga which is ON the Tennessee River and has some massive development downtown. That is why I wrote them. I do miss the Upstate because some people there were truly nice to me (amid the BS artists) and the amount of food choices was out of this world. Within a few miles of where I lived in Taylors, I counted over 50 different places to eat. Thai, Indian, Greek, Cuban, along with all the rest.
