Given that the airport does keeps records as per FAA regulations, why will nobody answer this simple question so that taxpayers can know exactly how our tax money is being spent?

County Commissioners? Airport Commission? Budget and Finance Office? Local newspapers?

They do, have to, for both the Feds and State governments and the County as well, they just don't want the Public to know how few people use the airport for all the money spent on it or that the propaganda they put out about jobs generated and money brought in by the airport is just lies!

Because they are hiding the truth, that they lie to promote a playpen for a few people, especially one rich and powerful person!

The county budget office has the financial records but they will not release them to any individual in the public, it's like they're hiding something. Now, the FAA has records submitted on all traffic at the airport and other records but try getting those! Why all the secrecy for a publicly owned airport that has to comply with lots of regulations, inspections, etc. and is maintained and kept open by taxpayer's dollars, for a few people, not even 0.00001 percent of the citizens of Macon County? It should be put up for sale to a "private" entity!

So why does the FAA not provide those airport records to the public upon request?

Exactly who in the Macon County budget office maintains the records? Does that person report to the County Manager? Who exactly told the county budget office not to release the records? Was it somebody on the County Board of Commissioners who told the budget office not to release the records?

Is it true that the County Commissioners claim that they appoint the Airport
Commission members but that the Airport Commission does not have to report back to them?

Go to " maconnc.org/airport-authority" ; and you can gain access to the monthly "authority" meetings, some interesting stuff in there, like they just added another $150K rider to the insurance they have through "Wayah Insurance",$230K for filling the wet area on the southeast entrance to the airport because it attacts animals! Statements on bringing the water pipeline to the "borders" of the airport, cutting trees $5K, mowing the grass by county maintenance crews, new blinds, windows leaking, new heating, lights, some things not working with the new runway that have to be fixed, finishing the "Punch List" by Buchannon contractors, more money for the engineering firm, etc.! Oh, they claim 29 planes are based at MCA, 24 single engine, and 25 takeoffs/landings per day?

Lots of money for less than 30 people but lots of business for friends of friends! Collins is not only on the authority, he is also legal counsel!

So why do none of the local or regional newspapers publish this information for all the taxpayers to see?

$230,000 for paving parking apron for planes?

$230,000 for filling wet area on southeast entrance to deter animals?

No cost yet calculated on bringing water pipeline to borders of airport?

$5,000 for cutting trees?

No cost calculated yet on on that long punch list of other items?

Additional $15,000 insurance rider to be paid to the EDC Chairman Edward Shatley (Wayah Insurance Agency)?

25 takeoffs and landings per day? Really? Why do none of the airport neighbors see any of that?

So how many BIG JETS use the airport per day, week, or month that require the LONG RUNWAY EXTENSION, which is what we taxpayers are paying for and complaining about?

Oh, excuse me, it was $150,000 to Edward Shatley for an insurance rider........ so what was the rest of the insurance cost paid to Shatley, EDC Chairman?

Because they depend upon the very people who are on the Boards/Authority and all their family/friends for revenue!

Yep, it's a closed shop, and not a pretty sight. Disgusting, really, and disheartening.

Think it was a $150K policy rider, not that Wayah got $150K but they do get monthly, quarterly or yearly payments on the policies they sell to the County and Town.

And so how much do those regular premiums amount to for both the County and Town?

Weren't we just recently talking about Board/Client conflicts of interest on these threads?

That information would have to come from the "authority" , the County Budget office and/or the Town office but good luck in getting any financial information out of them or who the money goes too, tight lid on that "public" information!

Is that why they changed it from "Airport Commission" to "Airport Authority" last year? You mean that was not just a "cosmetic" change as Gregory said?

Is our tax money now being spent by the Macon County Commissioners and Franklin Town Council to fund the expansion and maintenance of the Airport Commission.......but the Airport Commission does not have to report back to the County Commissioners and Franklin City Council about how that money is spent?

Is that accurate? The County Budget Office DOES NOT KNOW HOW THE MONEY IS BEING SPENT by the Airport Authority?

Try to ask for them under the Information of Freedon Act.

They probably will not respond-but send the request certified receipt. Then see who responds and who signs for the request.
