Has anyone noticed that since one of the reporters at the Macon County News has started working for Drake Enterprises that their facebook page https://www.facebook.com/MaconCountyNews has also started posting all kinds of promos for Dnet and the Smoky Mountain Center for the Performing Arts? The reporter is also still writing news stories for the newspaper, too.

Boy, is this town corrupt or what? But, still I guess that is one way to prevent negative coverage of Drake Enterprises and all the money that is going to them from the town and county. I wonder if the Drakes have bought out the Franklin Press and the radio station, too?

Is this a conspiracy theory? Why do you think there is a Drake connection with Macon News except for one reporter who works both places? Who else at that newspaper in management or former management is involved with Drake? Anybody at Franklin Press?

It's not a conspiracy theory if you notice that their facebook feed is now promoting Drake happenings more than they used to do. In fact, the reporter that now also works for Drake is one of the only reporters who even has access to the facebook account. People should know where their news is coming from, especially when Drake seems to be getting all the money from the Franklin Tourism Board. It seems like a conflict of interest to me, but maybe I am wrong and there are so many talented people in this town that employers have to share them.

Here we go again. https://www.facebook.com/groups/2604064106522...

The reporter that covered the story of Biltmore Baptist (which meets in Drake-owned Center for the Performing Arts) donating material in a public school is written by a reporter who just happens to also be working for Drake Enterprises as well as writing stories for the Macon County News and a paper in Highlands...please notice that she features Josh Drake's photo in the paper.

Can you trust what that paper is reporting? I've also noticed that the facebook and twitter accounts of Macon County News reposts material that is also posted on the DNET accounts. Here is just one example https://twitter.com/SiteDart/status/454356253... The Macon County News Twitter Account retweeted it less than a minute later. I think it was the same person one both accounts.

People should know what is happening in our town.

If it weren't for the Drakes, Franklin wouldn't even be on the map. Be grateful they care enough to give back to the community.

You people need to get a life. Gossipers and rumor mongers and cowards hiding in anonymity.

Some people have the drive to work more than one job and some people care enough to give to those who have not.

Shame on you for attacking people who are out there using their own resources to help others.

Hello all. My name is Brittney. I am the reporter being discussed. If you have concerns, I would be happy to speak with you about it. But I am assuming because of your anonymous comments, that won't happen. Because while I have to stand behind what I write and my name gets paraded around the county and I have to own up to everything I do, your trolling post online hold you to nothing. But I would like to correct you.

"In fact, the reporter that now also works for Drake is one of the only reporters who even has access to the facebook account."

Every single employee at the Macon County has equal access to the Facebook account and are all contributors to the site. So if something from one business gets more attention than another, that is likely do to so many different contributors posting things they find of interest.

I hope this one incident will not belittle our paper and the work we have done for this community.

I think that it is a great thing that the Drakes have businesses here in Franklin. I think that every legitimate, tax paying company in Macon County should be applauded. I find it sad and a little frightening that one of the largest employers in the county has so few full-time, benefited employees. Sure, he may pay better than some of the other companies but is it a true compensation of the worth of his employees if he refuses to pay insurance and retirement benefits. Can a person work there and support a spouse and child and be able to provide them with proper medical care and dental care if they are not one of the few full-time year round employees? I am not sure how they would or could. I also find it horribly egotistical that he has employees in so may buildings with inadequate parking on the same property. I don't like to park on main street when I am shopping there because an injury makes it difficult to back out safely. I much prefer to park at the lots available off of Palmer street. I am able to easily walk up to main street as well as enjoy the shops on Palmer. I also don't feel rushed while pulling out of a parking space. The public lot between Carenet and Macon Barber is usually full mid-morning during the week. Many of these cars are there daily. The lot across from Premier usually has one or two spots vacant unless someone is parked there to browse the local shops. I am not sure how the local retail businesses ever have adequate parking for shoppers when the employees from across the street are parked there.

No, Brittney. the one incident did not belittle your newspaper. YOU DID! By being a personal suck-up to Josh Drake, not very professional but its what we have come to expect in Podunk Town. You are a sweet girl but naive, fell in with the wrong crowd, got all dirtied up.
