Why is the number of out-of-wedlock births increasing?

In the USA today, almost half of all babies are born out of wedlock.
In 1980, about 18 percent of births were to unmarried women; by 2009, it rose to 41 percent.
Among whites, the increase was from 11 percent to 36 percent.
Among African Americans, from 56 percent to 72 percent.
Among Hispanics, from 37 percent (1990) to 53 percent.
Now, about half of all births are to unmarried women.
What is the reason for this increase?

Marriage, as an institution fostered by and for the Church, is no longer economically, politically or morally viable.

Marriage is a lot older than the church. Not really sure why we need govt involved in marriage stuff anyway...economically? I always thought single parents had a rougher go of it financially.

A lot of parents today, while not legally married, live together and raise children in a healthy environment. Come tax time, filing separately does have itís advantages plus a single martial status does not absolve the other parent from having to pay child support, or alimony, should they split.

You're going to have to cite where its financially more stable for a single parent vs a married couple. As far as married vs parents living together, those are not as clear when it comes to stability or finances whether it is better. Yes, the person who makes the baby does have to pay for support, but how secure is that?

I didn't mention how stable anything is.

A man and a woman, or two people, to be politically correct, who are not (legally) married, have children and are living under the same roof are (legally) two single parents.

And secure? Don't know that it is in any situation these days.

Kids raised in single parent homes are much more prone to criminal or negative behavior than those raised in a married household. Stability is not mentioned by you, but it is certainly implied.

You also mentioned that marriage is not morally viable...what do you mean by that?

To understand the answer to that requires a knowledge of the history of marriage, that is, the political and economic background that caused it to be created, NOT by God (or god), rather man (the gender).

LOL! While you're researching, check out the real (secular) reason virginity (of women) has been so highly prized (by men) in almost all cultures down through the ages and why some religions objected to a man marrying a non-virgin, who are/were considered immoral, whores, harlots, or in today's vernacular, skank, hoes, sluts, etc., but not widows. Youíll laugh, but it made sense, back then. Doesnít now. Youíll also laugh when you learn the reason why priests (of most religions) are required to be celebant. If you think God had something to do with that bright idea, think again!

Women are escaping bondage today and that's a good thing, IMO! Theyíre no longer chattels, property, or consider themselves to just be sperm receptacles! Old rules regarding sex, old prohibitions, old stigmas, along with the institution of marriage, are slowly but surely growing dim as the world changes.

Having a mom and dad together working with each other and raising children together has always been the best way to strengthen families and build society. That's probably one of the easiest things to observe vs families/children who do not have that luxury. You don't believe in God/gods, so it won't do me any good trying to convince you otherwise concerning bibilical marriage. If the sexual freedom you and your believers is now upon us, then why is there an explosion of stds? Biologically speaking, if we were meant as a species to hump, pump and dump, then why so many diseases?

I agree with Martel. We need to return to family values with fathers who are heads of their houses. Satan sends the STDs but with prayer you can overcome such sinful ways. Get right with God. John 3:16. Jesus said to bring up your children as they should grow and when they are old they will not depart from it.

Nation wide teen pregnancy is down because of increased condom use. Condom use is higher because of sexual education in the school system. More children born out of wedlock is because women are figuring out how big a loser there sperm donors are before the birthday (remember at this point they have something to love and protect) and family and friends, even personal experience can till them how bad it to goes when you try and make things work with a worthless piece of shit.
