The other week I took a train in to New Orleans from Texas which is the way I had come from seeing some friends. What struck me most about Louisiana is that they have gambling & casinos literally in small shopping centers. Right across the border from Orange/Beaumont Texas there are a few casinos. There are several casinos in Monroe, Shreveport, Lake Charles, Lafayette, Baton Rouge, New Olreans & even some down in that bayou area south of Baton Rouge in places like New Iberia & Gonazales -- I mean who exactly has money to blow these days first of all. Let's get that settled -- but why are people going to come all the way here from Texas or out west when they can just go to New Orleans? And they have casinos now @ Indian reservations in Alabama & Florida & now Arkansas has its own casinos.

Gaming revenues are down a quarter since 2007 when they peaked. What are we going to do? We already have too many people moving down here looking for work, we don't need any more poor ass people coming down here looking for a quick fix job when unemployment is already high enough down here.

I think this state needs to seriously get ready for the fact that gaming revenue has probably peaked....for good.

Greenville also has crap for casinos. They are filthy, only musicians whose careers ended way back when play there, tax dollars have done nothing for the town........... They just need to pull up anchor and leave for good.

I've never even been to Greenville.

What I figured happened was -- the politicians probably mis-spent and/or pocketed the money to them & their friends over the years & instead of building up the industry just let it die out.

Sad, really.

I think the entire region's in trouble though because the state of Mississippi based too much of its revenue & budget on gaming & now that gaming levels have dropped down with the recession as ppl are broke & now that other surrounding states have their own massive casino industries(Louisiana gets more gambling money than our state, now)-- then yea, marketshare is just getting eaten up.

Biloxi is the same man. Crappy has-been rock bands who haven't had a hit in 35 years....they think that'll bring in the tourists.

I dunno man, I wanna move to Texas or Atlanta. There's no work left in either of our states, or in Alabama or Arkansas.
