Thanks to the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union and the worker strike, Hostess has filed bankruptcy. Over 18000 jobs lost at Hostess. That doesn't include the rest of the people outside Hostess that will be indirectly affected.

1912 unions good. 2012 unions bad.

Union.... Ppl we're crossing picket lines to goto work and they were threatened.... But sounds like they are the smart ones... I would rather take a paycut than losing my job. But "Union" tells them keep picketing and they will come around!! Screw that I'm out for me and my family!! But that's just me

A week? They've been on strike for 8 months. Maybe you need to read all the facts.

If Hostess had moved production overseas, the liberals would be raising hell about it. Since it's the union leaders that drove Hostess out of business and cost 18,000 jobs, the liberals are silent.

I just wonder how many raises the C.E.O. has given himself over this period of time? I'm sure he's adjusted his income to make a 1000 times what an hourly employee makes. If industry would be responsible and treat employees right, with a decent income and benefits, unions wouldn't be needed. We all see how the rich industry's treat their employees in mexico, china and other countrys that have no unions. It's sickening, and heart breaking to see even children used as slave labor paying them .50 to 2.00 an hour to work for rich american employers, while the C.E.O.'s are making millions a year. I say the biggest problem with hostess is management and overpaid bosses and C.E.O. These right bastards that exploit others for their own greed will probably have to answer for this on judgement day. Hell yes we need unions today more than ever. We also need to tax the hell out of any industry that ships their jobs over seas in search of slave labor. Damn man, you are beginning to sound like your loser mitt Romney the great job out-sourcer. I'm glad america put his ass on the straight and narrow. He's still blameing the poor and middle class for his defeat. It would have been a shame to put this freak in the oval office. Unions would have surely been screwed. Thank you america for sending all the rich suckass republicans a strong message and thanks for putting a good and decent president Obama back in the Oval office for 4 more years.

Again, just one local at one plant went on strike for one week, because they wanted a wage freeze instead of having their pay cut. This did not bankrupt Hostess.

I agree with you, why don't the rich ass C.E.O. take a reduction in pay and benefits in order to keep hostess a-float?

There is no fair wage and benefits when a union is involved. It's never enough for them which is why they drive companies out of business and overseas. Why people can't understand this simple grade school level concept is beyond me.

A person that owns a company has the right to pay themselves anything they choose. People don't start and run companies to remain poor or middle class.

Countries like China, are were America was a century ago when unions were needed.

Unions are needed today as much as they were 80 years ago. If is wasn't for unions or the threats of unions the rich corporations that's owned by the rich would be working everyone for pennies on the hour. Why people can't understand this simple grade school level concept is beyond me. Hell, we are paying 700.00 for a smart phone that is made in China with sweat shop slave labor. This is an american company doing this. You can just imagine what they would do here if they didn't fear the revolt of american workers and the fear of unions. I thought you was smarter than this, I realize now how totally out of touch you really are.

Tell me one reason, just one, that a company would not make phones in China.

If congress would have the balls to put a 1000 dollar tax on every phone made in another country besides the U.S.A. But hell we reward these greedy bastards with tax breaks. I believe america spoke up on Nov. the 6th. and the republicans now know either shape up or ship out.

We import so much more. Point being, the rich corp. and the rich tyrants have only greed, If they want to leave america to make even more profit exploiting children and the poor, then at least give them a reason to stay home and make their fortune. It's ok to pay an american a decent wage with decent benefits and still make your billions. I've had people work for me all my life and I have always wanted to give them a fair wage. The rich is sorta like a serial killer in a way. A serial killer can keep on killing with no remorse and no compassion for those they kill or the pain they inflict on others. The rich feels the same way about money and greed and they don't care what awful methods are used in order to achieve their goal. TAX THE GREEDY BASTARDS ALL THE WAY BACK TO AMERICA. If they come back with their jobs, give them a tax break.

some of these comments on here are just sad. it always comes down to the greed of the unions, or the greed of the working man. but hardly anything is ever mentioned about the greed that is usually at the top of these businesses. an earlier comment was made that people don't start business to be middle class or poor, point taken. but how much is your "moral" limit. how many pots do you need to piss in? a successful business should help out your fellow worker, community and country. this is the land of opportunity, not the land of access. my dad was a teamster, and was very proud to sacrifice a little when it came to the betterment of his fellow workers. a lot of times his union didn't fight for a big huge raise, they fought each time a new contract came up that their benefits, etc. wasn't taken away. and usually the sticking point was that the "higher ups" in the business didn't want to open their books to show how much profit they were actually making and where those profits were going.
i believe that any man has a right to be successful, but you can't stand tall and strong at the top without a strong base.
many people need to realize the difference between want and need, and just because you have an extra 0 or 0's at the end of your pay scale, doesn't mean those things change.
i will always support unions, the good and the bad...because they are about the only voice the working man has in today's society.
