I'm sure many are aware of the controversy about high school library books that are unfit to read due to language. It was in letters to the editor in the Leader News recently. Some concerned parents took the time to go to tonight's board of education meeting to talk to the board about this. They refused to even let us speak or hear our concerns. These board members are rude, obnoxious and think they know everything. It's their way or no way. I think it's terrible how they are. They suppose to here our concerns but they can care less. I think it's terrible to not even be willing to listen. I hate the direction our schools are going. Home school might be the answer.

What books are you talking about specifically?

Maybe they know about the Board of Education vs Pico case and knowing that the books are not pervasively obscene, saw no reason to have discussion.

Haven't heard about this but I think it's the law that during public meetings there is a place on the agenda when the governing body allows the public to speak. There may be a time limit but they are to hear from the public at all regular meetings. It's that way at the Fisical Court and I think that law governs school boards as well. Maybe this board doesn't know the law or they just do what they want too.

I don't know about the Pico case and I wasn't at the meeting. I was called afterwards. There are several parents that have an issue with these kind of books. I support this but I just don't think it's right for a group of parents to come to a public meeting and not be allowed to speak. I respect those who have a different opinion but not allowed to speak at this meeting doesn't seem right.
