'Mon Amie La Rose'
We are truly insignificant And that's what my friend the rose Told me this morning
I was born at dawn Baptised in dew I blossomed In the rays of the sun Happy and in love I closed my petals at night And when I awoke I was old. Yet I had been beautiful Yes, I was the most beautiful Of all the flowers in your garden
See, the God that made me Now makes me bow my head And I feel I'm falling And I feel I'm falling My heart is almost bare I have a foot in my grave Already I am nothing You admired me only yesterday And I shall be dust Forever, tomorrow
We are truly insignificant And my friend the rose Died this morning
Last night the moon Kept vigil over my friend And in a dream I saw Her soul, dancing Dazzling and naked, Above the heavens, Smiling on me. Let those who can, believe But I need Hope Or else I am nothing ~~~

Chickens, hogs, boiling water. You have to admit, nothing *stank* worse than this. Chicken feathers in hot water, OMG how gross! Your talking like this is bringing back visuals. I was about five. Grandma was in the working basement doing up some hog. I happened down the stairs to see what she was doing and then, the grossest thing I ever saw was a pig laying on a table slit down the middle. I can still see it's long eyelashes and how it was spread eagle still with the legs on it. Grandma was ladling out blood from the abdomen with one of those long handled white ladles with the black trim, scooping out from the belly and pouring blood into a large white bucket of the same black trim. I asked her what she was doing all that for, while I had to hold my nose it was so disgustingly awful smelling. I didn't stay long, but that visual is one that crossed my mind many times through the years. That woman had the stuff it took for people of her time, thinking nothing too much of it while grossing me out. I never went back down there either. LOL!!!!!!

You are the kind of "political" person, my Daddy was ... He passed in '85. My Mama was a Republican, Dad a Democrat ... So I could/can see "both" sides ... Patriotism is "what" matters! You, my friend, I believe have it! Along with several others on here. Some do NOT, you can tell by their comments/manners. Self-respect/esteem "goes" a long way. Some do not have that, even..... Sad :(

this ones for you wrote: <quoted text> I'm with you on that Syl,I hated breakin' beans and choppin' cabbage. But loved goin' to Granny's cellar for anything you could think of that could be canned. The blackberries for dumplings out of this world. We also raised chickens and slaughtered two hogs for winter. My granny tried to show me how to ring a chickens neck, but I was too small in the 60's lol. wasn't too small to eat it though! My Pap and I ran trot-lines and he was 80 years old..those catfish were delicious.Don't think I would eat anything from the Cumberland river now..unless I was real hungry! And there were no weed-eaters..check that I was the weed-eater. My Dad would sharpen the hand sickles lay them on the porch...come in my room before he went to work...jerk off the cover and say don't won't one weed standing when I get home this evening! No problem...Dad! But you know what? I WOULD LOVE THOSE TIMES AGAIN! TOFY HA! Me to. When you mentioned weeds, made me think about my mother and grandma picking "greens" poke, dock, and others I can't remember the names, but remember if I saw them again. I cried when I was made to eat "weeds". Dad worked all week in the mines, but come Saturday evening, him and mom would take us to Dewey lake to swim, then to the old drive in theater. Can you imagine anyone doing that now? Guess I'm telling my age.

Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen † Amen....

The feathers were saved for pillows and bedding. I remember sleeping on the old feather bed at grandma's and hearing the rain on the tin roof. Oh my, I think I'm getting sentimental . This is bringing back so many memories.
