They look great but watch what happens over the next couple years with this group. They will give up football for baseball or another sport. We have had great middle school teams for the past 6 years and look what we have ended up with.

U hit the nail on the head!!! Some things never change, GC will never be a competitive football school, play in middle school, enjoy then leave it alone and pursue other sports at greenup that will reward your son for his pride and athleticism

Sports programs in Greenup County are unfair! You don't even have to go to school to participate. When my child went there if you didn't go to school the day of the game you didn't get to play. Now days it doesn't matter. So if someone tells you that you can't play or cheer, argue with them, tell them to check on others that wasn't there that are playing. Greenup is just unfair in everything!

You have no idea of what ur talking about. They have attendance rules and they follow them. You have to be present to play.

No the rules are not followed, I've watched many games were my child commented hey they weren't at school today and yet they were cheering or playing in the game.

Sad to say that it seems every year for the past 5 or 6 years, all i hear about is "look at them 7th and 8th graders and how good they'll be when they get to high school". Guess what? Those boys came and went and didnt live up to those expectations.

Yes, many do give up football for other sports. I was at a practice this thursday (week 8 of 10 in football) and I saw a baseball game going on. Seriously. We play baseball up into mid/late October. Why doesnt baseball end in aug or september and let them boys play football too. I am just astounded by this.

On the other hand, other schools manage to get their players to play both sports.

Just make sure in 3 years when those 7th and 8th graders that are beating up on everyone are 10th and 11th graders and we go 2-8 that you realize something is wrong with the system.

I watched the freshman play Thursday and lose to Russell 34-6 i believe. Yep, I bet those boys were like 8-2 last year as 8th graders and won some meaningless bowl game in the district.

I dont think dads should be allowed to coach once the kids enter middle school there should be paid coaches or atleast employee of the school system way to many daddys trying to make there son a super star and hurting the team by doin so that is one reason some kids give up football at gc hell now they even have daddys coaching the hs team we all see what comes from that 0 20 record and yes all of the daddys that coach their son is either quarter back or running back i watch about all of the eighth grade games and its the same ole shit j jackson gets them moving the chains the 3 straight carries from the two undersized backs punt there are two other kids on the team #15 #35 that never touch the ball that would start in the backfield of bout every 8th grade team in the state but their dads dont coach so i guess they will never get their chance at gc because these dads are gonna be on the hs staff next year very very sad but hell thats the gc way and no neither 15 or 35 are my son or any relation my son is on the 7th grade team just hate to see the talent not getting put to use for the better of the team

Dear rock bottom, I guess you are going to pay the salary of these coaches. The school sure as he'll isn't. I don't know too many people, including you, that would put in the time needed to coach these boys. So you think we need to get some teachers to do it! Sure don't think any are interested or they would be out there helping. Think our 8th grade team did pretty well this year considering most boys had to play both ways. Also, haven't seen you at many practices, so how would you know who can do what? Just saying.

8th grade lost a game and now idiots want to complain about who plays where. The team went 8-2, Its funny to question coaching after a two lose season. 15 and 35 play both ways and are great and I mean great ends with the best hands on the team. Thats why they are there.

Strange. I bet this 8-2 team in 8th grade will play the same boys in high school and never do better than 4-6 if they are lucky. Would someone please explain how this happens???

I would suggest that about half of those players never play past freshman year if they even play then.

The sad part is after a game the boys usually go in school late the next day or not at all, not all of them, just the ones that think without them there would be no team. Whether the game is on Thursdays or Saturdays.

That is a parenting issue. Then again so is 99% of all kid issues.

Both the 7th and 8th are great teams. I for one vote for a major coaching change tho. Would be a shame to let these boys get to HS only to have losing seasons. A coach that has a 2 year season without a win is doing something terribly wrong. Get a coach in there for these boys!

I have a nephew that plays with this group of boys and I think they are a great group. I also had a neighbor that played a couple years ago for McKell and then for the middle school. I hate to beleive it but I think the same will happen to this current group that happened to my neighbors group. They will quit playing football for other sports or just quit playing. I guess that a couple of the boys on his team went to play at another school. We need to encourage these boys and allow them to play multiple sports and give them a coaching staff to help them win. Mr. Meenach done a great job but I also agree that parents should not be coaching. Between the baseball program and the high school coaching staff, these boys don't stand a chance.
