Has anyone noticed what the Greenup Fiscal Court has been up to? They've enacted special taxes just for Lloyd.

If you own a home in Lloyd you will now be required to pay the following taxes:
$1,000 one-time TAX for a Wurtland sewer tap.
$1,500 one-time TAX for licensed plumber connection fee.
$600-$700 (estimated) annual TAX for monthly sewer fees.

Lets call this what it really is. It's plain and simply more TAXES. BTW, they'll drag you into court if you don't comply.
It's hard to believe the high and mighty fiscal court would actually raise taxes on a working family in this economy.
People are losing their homes to unpaid property taxes as it is.
Oh well, what's a few thousand dollars additional taxes from the pockets of the working people. I guess it's no big deal.
Thank you Fiscal Court, you're really looking out for us!

Unfortunately, there are so many people not working budgets are strapped all over. But, what these politicians fail to realize is that the people who are still working and trying to keep up with their own bills and expenses can't continue to be burdened with paying for all those sitting around paying for nothing. Seriously, if the economy gets much worse, it will barely be worth even attempting to work. We might as well all start living off the government. That's what this socialist President is attempting to do to the USA anyway. The only thing that keeps people like you and me working is that we were brought up to believe it's what you were supposed to do - SUPPORT YOURSELF, not sit around waiting for someone else to do it.

The Greenup Fiscal Court is taxing Lloyd residents to pay for the sewer infrastructure. The thousand dollar tap fees are a major financial part of the project. Of course, most people wouldn't pay this thousand dollar tax if the county didn't hold the threat of court/jail over their heads for non compliance.

Regulations are threat to freedom
I’m emembering many 4th of Julys, and why shouldn’t I? I have seen 90 of them.
I’m blessed to live under the great form of government that independence gave us — a system of personal liberty, free enterprise, free speech and freedom of religion is the best.
These have been protected by two political parties who keep each other from straying too far from the ideals of the Founding Fathers. But there is a change pending. Some changes come naturally: cultural, communication, electronic, etc. Society takes these in stride, but there is a change that is critical. It is a change in government power.
Through regulations, the government gets stronger, and the constitution becomes weaker. Big government is a monster that has threatened since the beginning. It slowly weakens the liberty of an individual. A welfare state discourages industry, and regulations stifle free enterprise. Regulations were meant for safety, security and fairness, but know this: Every regulation is a reach of the long arm of government into our personal liberties.
New regulations are chipping away at personal liberty. Every measure of liberty that we surrender to a new regulation, that same measure is added as power to government.
People are becoming servants of a government elected to serve. The government was formed to serve the people, but by new regulations, the people are being forced to become servants of the government. Our courageous soldiers have given all to protect our liberties from foreign aggressors; but our greatest threat to liberty is here at home.
I have no doubt that our leaders are loyal, and that they love America, but the America that they envision is a far different America than we have loved. It is an enemy to liberty. A little cartoon put it this way; “We have discovered the enemy! Us!”

Why has Mike Hieneman gotten a pass during this scandal? He's supported this assault against Lloyd from the beginning, even before Billy Ray Stevens was elected to the fiscal court. Mr. Stevens has now cast votes against the people of Lloyd, but he wasn't even on the fiscal court when this project was started.
As stated in Mr. Brown's letter to the editor, Mr. Hieneman wouldn't even meet with Lloyd homeowners to discuss this sewer project. 520 homes in Lloyd, two thousand people involved, and it's not worth his time to meet and talk about it. Seems like taxation without representation to me.
They just want to raise taxes and expect to people to follow along like sheep.
Talk about your wolves in the henhouse.

It seems that our fiscal court has taken the same approach as our federal government. They want to raise taxes and spend their way out of this recession. It's great if you're on the receiving end but not if you're the one paying for it.

The people of Greenup County are snookered into believing that just because their parents voted as Democrats their whole lives, they too should be Dems. This is the perception that will sink America into oblivion. Look at our President, we voted in a black president because the Dems know that all white people are scared of black people. They put a Community Organizer on the ticket to guilt people into voting. Now that he is elected, we can all call him "cool" and "well spoken" and think that black people will feel more at ease with us white folk. WRONG.

Democrats are Socialist by definition, borderline Commies. Let's stand up and take it to the courthouse. That's how it works. Get some signs and form a demonstration outside the courthouse. If there are so many unemployed people in Greenup, then get off your butts and picket! That's what needs to happen in order for CHANGE to happen.(I hate that word now due to Osama)

Either that, or shut up and pay your taxes!

I don't see this as a political issue. Most of the people in Greenup County are registered democrats. This includes the population of Lloyd. In spite of this fact, our elected officials have chosen to take advantage of the residents in Lloyd.

Let me see if I've got this right.
Our officials have given this Wurtland Sewer most of our county's coal severance funds for many, many years.
The sewer project will cost each Lloyd homeowner thousands of dollars in tap fees, sewer hook up, and mandatory monthly sewer payments.
The Wurtland Lloyd sewer will bring low income housing projects that decrease property values 10%-15% if you're unlucky enough to live within a half mile of one.
Crime rates will increase due to the housing projects influx of residents.
And on top of all this, Lloyd will have a payroll tax when it's forced into annexation by the City of Greenup.

Is it really worth all the bad just to provide sewer so some wealthy land owners can build low income Lloyd housing projects using free government money?

Well those Coal Severance funds have gone right through Carpenters paws straight to his sidekick engineer Biggs hands. Yep, that is who was hired for the engineering work. Carpenter sure knows how to pick 'em.

I'm happy that Greenup County hasn't received coal severance funds for a couple of years. Most of ours has been donated to Wurtland for the Lloyd sewer project so it doesn't get used properly anyway. The funds are not available unless your county has current coal mining. It seems to be private war chest for politicians to buy votes. I hear they're working hard to get it back by recruiting someone to dig a hole in our county and label it a coal mine.

Try getting a licensed plumber to do a residential connection for $1,500. By the time you pay for excavation and connection parts and labor you'll pay a LOT more than that.

That's the problem with the new republican party: they are racist and selfish. They care nothing about the rest of the country, all they care about is how much they put in their pocket.
You say the democrats are socialists, yet the Republicans think that money means nobility and just because you have money means you should be in power. Republicans now would take us back into a monarchy.
And actually the definition of Demococrat is one who advocates and supports Democracy.
Not even close to 'borderline commie'. BTW: Two things that can't go together are democracy and communism.

Remember: deregulation of Wall Street is the reason we are in the state we are in. We were in a recession nearly as bad as the Great Deppression and would have been there now if not for President Obama.
There has to be regulations. We cannot live in a society without regulations anymore than we can live in a society without laws.
You all are griping about these one-time sewer taxes? Go ahead vote Romney and see how much more taxes you're going to have to pay. He doesn't care about working people like us here in Greenup County. He'll give tax breaks to the very wealthiest, but that money will have to be made up somewhere. Who do you think is going to have to pick up the slack? Not him, that's for sure. Reaganomics didn't work in the 80's anymore than it will work now. The Trickle-down economy system doesn't work. If you think paying sewer taxes are bad, just you wait.

You're dreaming if you think Romney or Obama has anything to do with these "one-time sewer taxes" in Lloyd. They came directly from the Greenup County Fiscal Court while Tanya Pullin was throwing state money at the project. It will cost each and every Lloyd homeowner thousands of dollars. I don't see how they can forget those payments when it's time to vote for county officials again.
