Word on the street is that the AD Roger Newton is tryin to get a rule passed at the high school to stop middle school kids from bein able to play at the high school in sports. Herd hes sore cause his kid aint no good at his sports and gives his own sons coaches all a hard time cause he thinks them coaches all been not playin his kid enuff. Well buddy let me be the first to say If that happens they gone lose my grandaughter and lots of other good girls and boys. Hells bells we couldnt make up a varsity team without them young girls playin up in most sports. I heard that the coaches up there is all pissed off at this idiot to begin with. How can that idiot possably think he can out fox the state of Kentucky? Hell you cant just go maken up your own rules. We need to fire this red faced clown and thats my 2 cents.

I have heard the same thing. I don't thing this "operator" realizes the trail of bs that he has spewed out of his lying mouth in conversations that he had with folks that he thought he could trust around here. BIG mistake buddy, you done went and fucked up. The wall is starting to cave in on you and it's a matter of time before you get what's coming to you. This ain't Lexington bubbie, your in Greenup County which aint the place to be fucking with good folks. We know where your at so be expecting it when your not expecting it.

Honestly, if Father Time and Got Our Eyes On You Buddy both graduated from GCHS, it's certainly evidence enough that the faculty's focus needs to be put back on education, especially spelling and grammar, and away from sports. What difference does it make if a kid plays a sport/game in school or not, if they can't spell when they get out? Most of them certainly aren't all going to get sports scholarships to college so maybe their time should be spent on studying rather than playing.

Ridiculous, it will never pass! It's not like we have any OJ Mayo's or anything! This is stupid, look at the baseball team it's filled with middle school kids! I'm telling you the dumbasses should have never ran Youngman off! Hell fire the Logan's, just clean house while you are at it. It's seems funny to me that we can't get a coach to stay. Hell we made districts last year!!

This is the first time I have heard of this rule. I used to get mad at parents for taking their kids to Raceland, Russell & Lewis County but after reading this type of garbage and listening to the talk around town about the high school I can't say I blame anyone for doing so.

I agree 200% with you sir, but the problem is that we have so many daddy's that did not live out their own childhood athletic dreams, so they are all trying to live that unfullfilled dream of theirs out through their own poor children. I have seen it here forever. They are the dad's that coach their kids little league teams in every sport so their kid gets to be the pitcher, short stop, point guard, quarterback, lalalalala. When you get to high school it's all of a sudden about winning and daddy can't coach his kid anymore and just as soon as little baby boy isn't starting or playing its all the coaches fault and here comes the hooliganism. Definition- Hooliganism refers to behavior that is unruly, bullying, also known as bitching to the superintendent, bitching to the principal, bitching to the athletic director and last but not least bad mouthing coaches here on topix. Until we get administrators that care about what is best for all kids and stand up to the parent hooliganism we will never keep a good coach around here.

What an insightfull comment! You are exactly correct, before the middle schools there used to be numerous schools sending "starters" to the high school, then everyone couldn't start or even make the team. Everyone stops playing at some time; either from old age, injury or because they ARE JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH. Some parents can't accept that, and thus the hooliganism begins! YOU sir see the BIG picture, it sad the only a few can see their child for what they really are!

the problem with GCHS is its insane hiring of basketball coaches, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results, we keep hiring coaches from outside this area and guess what, they keep leaving this area. Until we hire someone local, and trust me there are good candidates, GC will continue to lose these temporary coaches and there will never be any chemistry, loyalty, dedication necessary to build a strong, successful, competitive program. Wake up GC!

At Greenup County winning is not enough, you have to win with right people!

Let me clear something up 4 you! This is a two-fold problem.

First, when a coach with ties to the program is hired, anyone who has had a prior affiliation with that caoch now thinks they have the right to: bring up something from the coach's past, remind them of how they assisted in getting them hired (behind the scenes - of course), remind them of their long standing friendship (true or otherwise)or any other ploy to gain favor or their child-especially if said child is of lesser talent.

Second, if an outside hire is made:it is now afree-for-all to see who can befriend this new coach by: explaing their importance in the community, "assisting" new coach with "if there is any thing you need - I'm the guy to see", explaing their political clout, aiding in bringing the new coach a scouting report of inherited talent, plus the ever so important information on all other parents who may be out to sabotage the program!

You see Greenup County is the coaching cradle! All those coaches who won third grade championships are willing to help "any" coach take their blue prints for success and translate that into regional championships!

LOOK around, how many of these individuals can you count? If you say zero, just look in the mirror because U R 1!

Glad you looked up a big word in the dictionary. Jeff Nickel is as local a boy as it gets. The problem here is in the administrative building. They don't give two hoots about anything other than getting those big fat welfare checks their getting cause they sure aint working for em. Those are the people that need to be fired. Bring in all new administrators and start all over. Nobody worth a darn is going to want this job with our sterling reputation for screwing over coaches. What local guy worth two shits is going to want this job after watching what they did to Jeff. If they would have just left Nickel alone and let him do his job he would have been here every bit as long as Ward. Instead the AD was back stabbing him all over the place and so to were the parents. How was he supposed to win a district tournament much less a region with no support. Here ye here ye step right up 3rd grade coaching legends who wants to be the 7th guy in 6 years at GCHS? I say Ward for Superintendent and watch things change real quick around here.

This athletic director is the worst we have ever had here in greenup. He deligates all his work to other people than runs around griping to all that will listen about how over worked and under paid he is. What a bad JOKE he is.

1 and done coaches have absolutely no chance to instill any kind of productive chemistry with even good talent, u saw it over last 3 years at greenup had the biggest, strongest, fastest, highest leaping boys in the region and went no where, we uphold the wrong values in greenup, thats y no one stays, coaches sense deception, blatent selfishness in GC and get the hell out of dodge. Its time GC realizes its time to lead by example and maebe things will turn around

a light bulb has come on! Very difficult task as chemistry is must or bust.

Although these are good athletic traits the ability to dribble, shoot and pass a ball are far important traits when it comes to basketball, you fail to mention that they also had the areas laziest, dmost drug users, and alcoholics which does not bode well for success on the court.

and went no where,

I believe we won district championships 2 of the last 3 years and I am sure our fine neighbors from Russell would love to be able to say the same.

we uphold the wrong values in greenup, thats y no one stays,
coaches sense deception, blatent selfishness in GC and get the hell out of dodge.

Wait, you mean no one wants to stay here just because we don't uphold the right values and just because they get back stabbed repeatedly and because we are all so selfish? That's weird.

Its time GC realizes its time to lead by example and maebe things will turn around
GC will never lead by example until there is a complete changing of the guard. Touché

Hey, thanks for breaking down my right on comments into mini definitions, but winning only districts is unacceptable considering the potential over last few years, hire ward as a special consultant to the next 1 and done coach., we aint went to rupp since he went to hooters
