Walk through the gravel pit area at lunch and check out the tobacco use and groping or ask how many kids per day skip class with the school having no idea where they are. Other schools do not have these problems. Not to mention some of the lowest test scores in the state. Disgusting.

What grade is ur kid in? If mine misses a class I get a phone call! They dont leave without an excuse unless ur kid is sneaking out why is it an issue to you? Kids have always tried to smoke there...much less now than ever before. The test scores have much to do with parents not reinforcing study habits as they do with teachers. Sounds more like you have an axe to grind.

Im not whining and I am not a terrible aprent my child has never been in trouble and makes very good grades is even in accelerated classes and it is not because standing up at a pep rally got him there my child has gotten there because me and his mother work with him at home with his work we check on his grade every week through infinite campus I even have several of his teachers on my facebook so we can communicate. The problem is not with all the teachers some of them acutually do their jobs. the problem lies with the teachers and staff that do not do there jobs my child has been coming home talking about how bad the cigereete smoke is in the bathrooms cant that be stopped? some kids have been sent home for clothing (not mine but others i know) when cheerleaders come out of the school, while school is still in session, with shorts on that are not approriate for after school must less during school. I am just saying they need to concentrate on education a little harder than the sports!
How do you know their cheerleaders? Because our cheerleaders got in trouble for wearing their sleeveless shirts on spirit day. We had alarms set in the bathroom, but they were broken by stupid idiotic kids. We do not solely concentrate on sports, we have announcements at the end of the day congratulating anything that was achieved. For instance, we had an announcement last year about academic team winning, how our behavior is improving in the hallways, how we need to stop texting in class, and a lot of other stuff. So really John, I wish you could check out first hand how our school is, maybe your child is just having a problem with someone on the football team or something and want to complain about the sports cuz of it. Because we are a lot better than most schools around here. Our whole school is renovated, with our walls beige due to the fact that they are better for concentrating then white. We have cameras everywhere to prevent trouble and catch culprits, and most of all, we have great students. Their are really a lot of smart kids in Greenup, believe it or not. One of our students that graduated had a perfect ACT score, and another just two points below it. Just because we have dummies doesn't mean you won't find them at Russel and Raceland too. But do whatever you see fit, you are the parent. But I think you'll just find that its the same everywhere, and that your child will miss his or her friends.

you are correct. What these poor kids who go to class, make good grades, don't do the wrong things, etc. Don't realize is that in other schools this is the expectation rather than the exception. Good kids don't have to wade through cigarette smoke and snuff spit to use the restroom. Hallways are not clogged with kids skipping and making out. Teachers are able to teach and students come prepared to learn. If you never been to school anywhere but gchs, then you don't understand the opportunity at good schools. I feel sorry for you and hope your parents have the sense to get you out of a dump like gchs.

I graduated from greenup county, I also went to raceland for nine years. I have seen what gc has to offer as well as raceland. Gchs had more classes offered. I transferred in the end of my freshmen year, in three short years I graduated high school with 29 college credits! This would not of been possible if I would of stayed at raceland. Leaving raceland was the gear decision my parents and myself made, I wish it had been made alot sooner. I have 3 children that will not step foot into any other school than greenup county!

everyone has their own opinion about things and it is great to stand up for what you believe in but I do think that in the process of shareing your opinion you should not be insulting other peoples children and them also. "big h" do you even have a kid at greenup or do you just post on every thread? every thread I have seen you on it looks like you just disagree to start things on here just saying..........

Go through this thread, never once did he say anything about your child. He did, however, mention your parenting skills. There is a difference. No, if you must know, Big H does not have a child at Greenup. We just graduated back in 2009. That's how we know what it's like to walk the halls of Greenup County. I am finished here. It does not matter what I say to you, you're still going to think you know it all because you have a child there. Have a nice day.

id say all other schools have kids that smoke and hug on each other, not just greenup! They are teenagers and well that says it. If a girl is wearing shorts too short, then mommy and daddy need to stop her before she gets out the door! Just because she is dressing for practice doesnt mean shorts cant be too short! Are you telling us that other schools dont have these types of kids? What? all these habits that youre harping on start at the greenup county line and stay inside the county boundaries? I think not! Go to one of your home school games and watch the kids that attend from your school and tell me they dont act just like a kid from any other county! I mean it go watch, you might be suprised to see what you see.
Amen to that (about the dress code issue). Parents need to pay attention to their child's clothing. If you dont want your daughter looking like a "ho" dont buy them clothes that make them look that way.

Wow I love how you guys like to talk about greenup co high school.. Yeah your child may go there but you need to think again about he/she might do the same thing the kids do there.. And so what if they crew there kids.. There gonna do it anyways If you tell them no. I'm a student a greenup co high school and I love it there.. We take school very serious we do have some people that just don't care and that's why they call it isi or you get sent home.. Duhh! Also we do take are sports serious too.. Love how all you guts hate on greenup when you live in it if you don't like greenup co then get out of it? Seriously? So you adults need to grow up and quit talking about greenup co because you think it such a bad school when you don't even go there.. And f you kids are complaining then take them to another school? That would be the smart choice...

I've had some of the best teachers at gchs and some of the worst. It basically boils down to students who want to learn and do well, will, and the ones who don't will float by. I've made straight A's and B's and I'm a junior and this includes adv/honor classes.

Nearly everyone I know that attended (dare I say graduated from) GCHS is severely ill-prepared for any kind of life outside the farm... unless they decided to pursue the stressful yet lucrative business of pill-billying.

I graduated from Greenup County. Have since graduated from Medical School, with my Associates Degree. I'm proud to say I attended GCHS. I am a very successful person. Quite a few people I graduated with at Greenup, graduated with me from Medical School. Few have gone to become Lawyers, and even one who is now a State Senator. I'm happily married, to another Doctor. Have 2 beautiful kids of my own. So before you step up and try to say we're all "pill-billying" you need to learn the facts.

You're just embarrassing yourself by claiming that you went to "medical school." Those short 2 years that it took you to obtain your degree are nothing to the 8+ that those who actually graduate from "medical school" endure. Also, you claim that you are married to "another doctor" -- are you trying to imply that you are a doctor? I don't know why you'd use the word "another" otherwise. Sure, it's great that you're actually working (as compared with many other G.C. graduates) but don't try to make your education sound more prestigious than it is.
