How can the owner of Prime Roofing Systems, scumbag Steven Kyle Hunt, possibly get away with this? Is the law designed to protect deadbeat contractors? I understand that the supplier wants to get paid but this is so wrong. The only justifiable, legal option should be to hold Hunt accountable, and not the homeowners who paid their bills. The law needs to be changed.

Not to mention all they hire are illegal aliens to do the actual work and profit from it. Anyone who hires these fly by companies from out of state deserve it.

I live in waxahachie just 20 miles south of Dallas. I heard a rumor about a waxahachie contractor facing charges and my mouth dropped. I cannot believe the home owners are having liens placed on them?? Not fair at all. You always hear beware of contractors and this is why. These guys mess it up for the really great honest ones that are out there. I'm a 53 yrs young single woman and needed my roof replaced 2 yrs ago. I had heard nothing but great things about a local roofing company here called Ark roofing and the owner was Brandon Walker. He did a great job and even fixed some odd and end stuff for free and he did something that I thought was very important. He didn't ask for anything upfront. He said every so often he will get a hot check so this is what he did. He said once the shingles arrived and his crew started to work to write a check for the materials and make it out to abc supply. I did and he handed the check to the driver. After the work was done I then paid the remaining balance to ark roofing. I guess it goes both ways. shady contractors and shady customers writing hot checks to contractors, but I can say brandon lived up to my expectations and everything he had listed on his website. I had all my neighbors contact him and he paid me ref fees. To bad he wasn't up there. I sure do pray for the home owners

He told me abc was a large company and it was easier for them to go after hot check writers than it was for him. Judging from the liens being placed I guess the supply company is quick to take action

My friend just sent me a txt saying read what lady bug wrote. Lady bug if I knew who you were I'd drive over and give ya a big hug!!!!! I checked out the story and it's a tragic one for sure. The home owners did nothing wrong and its very sad to hear they are having liens on their property. I always tell customers to be very aware when dealing with any type of contractor. From a contractor (my point) of view its just smart business for me to have my customers write the material check to the distribution company, This way I know materials are taken care of and at the very minimum if the Balance check at the end of the job is hot I am only out that amount not the entire amount of the job. I certainly don't want 12K or 20K in bad checks messing me up with my distributor let alone being out of pocket and on the hook because I was taken advantage of. Home owners deff do your homework when dealing with contractors---- of any kind local or out of state. There are good local and out of state contractors. Ask for references, look at websites, check BBB ratings don't only ask for proof of insurance but actually call and make sure that it is currently in effect. I cannot tell you how many contractors are walking around with fake insurance cards. Ask where they get materials and call the distributor and ask if they ever have issues with the contractor. Lady bug you are correct. There are bad contractors and also bad homeowners. Bad contractors who steal and lie and home owners who write bad checks, or think they should pocket a ton of money and get a job for almost nothing. I hate knowing that one of our local companies is part of this. I'm very proud of waxahachie and the community here and up until now I've never heard anything bad about a local legitimate business. It saddens me to hear this. I hope and pray for the home owners who have been hit by such a heavy burden.

All these roofing companies are bringing in loads of illegal mexicants you see everywhere now.

THANKS ILLEGAL LOVING COMPANIES THANK YOU

IMO If you got scammed by these people you deserve it. Hire local and research the companies.. If you see loads of beaners working on a roof chances are they are from out of state.

Would rather have a mexican on my roof then any other.

Over 200,000 claims were placed for this particular storm....

If you left it up to the local contractors it would have tooking around 50 years to complete all of the work. Seeing how homeowners only have one year to complete all work, looks like they did the locals a favor.

It is sad that homeowners have liens, but that is what the GC bond is for. It protects the homeowner.

Looks like mexicans are to thank..... Just sayin!

Kudos to the cops that investigated this case and had this POS locked up; they brought him back to Westmoreland County and he couldn't post the 100K bail, which kind of surprized me. If he couldn't make bail, what are the chances everyone involved will be reimbursed?

Wow Brandon. It amazes me how wonderful you are. Hopefully you sensed the sarcasm there as you know the true story behind this and yet you are still using this situation to better yourself. I'm not surprised. For the other IDIOTS judging someone and not asking what REALLY happened, get your facts straight. THANKS!

If anyone was doing any REAL "investigating" then they would know the story already. However, since there are no laws against ignorant people writing slanderous articles, I guess people will never get any real answers because the idiots who say they are investigating are merely jumping to conclusions instead of asking questions. Get your facts straight sweetie. If you have a question, you might start with "why" and go from there. You will probably remain ignorant though because I'm sure your interpretation makes a better story than the actual truth.

My advise on how to be safe isn't a jab at anyone. I made no personal comments about prime. No matter what happened who did what the fact is home owners being stuck with a lien when they paid, is wrong and it happens. Telling people how to be safe isn't bettering myself.

I guess we should be a little more careful about who we have roofing our houses. My friend found good roofers with roofing Vancouver.( http://www.affiliatedroofers.ca/ ) It's too bad what happened here though.
