I have watched these girls for many years now and no one seems to have any respect for them. They go to football and basketball games to help cheer on the Dragons to win! Yet they ask for their community to come watch them at competition and no one goes. I think that is very disrepectful. They take time to practice and everything to cheer on the Dragons and keep the crowd pumped but no one will help cheer them on at competition? Can some one tell me why because I don't get it.

I was a cheerleader in from 1978 until I graduated 1986. I was on the Dance Team in college. I was also a State Champion HS softballer. Nobody has ever respected cheerleaders. That has never bothered me. Either people respect you, or they don't. Now at 40, I cherish everyday I was involved in organized athletics. I am still coaching my nieces dance squad in Valley Station. Even in 2009, they still "don't get no respect". Rodney Dangerfield for all you golden oldies. They don't care either, because they enjoy it. Plus, I have told them that the people who are on the sidelines mocking them will more than likely be squishy and fluffly when they hit 40--and the dancers and cheerleaders will still be toned and tight enough to bounce a nickel off of. That's the trade-off, and a great one. Now, Ready? OK! Gimme a beat!

Do you go to the band competitions and cheer them on? What about the FFA, when they go to their competitions? tennis team? golf team? track team?

I could go on, but you get my point. Why single out the cheerleading squad and be upset that they don't have people show up at their competitions? There are MANY kids that work very hard, compete, and win regional and state honors with little or no fanfare or support from the public.

Perhaps your point was that the cheerleaders support the basketball and football teams. That's true, but on the other hand, that's sorta just what cheerleaders do. It's like the purpose for the squad to exist in the first place. I doubt the girls who cheer really do it because they want to "support" those teams, but rather because it's just something they enjoy and/or because they enjoy the attention and social status it brings them.

Have they recently had a competition? Possibly no one knew about it. I understand the frustration people get when they feel like they don't get any respect. Honestly, cheerleading just falls into one of those categories that most don't think of as a sport, just more "decoration" if you will. Please don't think I'm picking on them because I'm not. I was once a cheerleader myself back in the 1970's.
um excuse me

if you havent noticed its not just cheerleading. what about the academic team. ever been to one of their matches. by the way the band has very few people supporting them other than the parents. its not just cheerleading but i do agree they work very hard and they do deserve some respect. i respect them and if i had the time id go out and watch them. i think what they do is very interesting. isupport all the competetive things here

The Academic Team is a lot more important than any of the sports teams. After their senior year, most of them will be history as far as sports are concerned. The academics last a lifetime and prepare you for college and beyond.

yes the band, basketball, academic team are all sports i support but the football and cheerleaders football team is full of pricks the biggest and i ant afraid to say it is jason shofner and jon stone if john would learn how to complete a pass we might have a better passing game in stead of runnin the ball every time and the cheerleaders the reason they get attition is because they dress like whores and they act like them to

I believe the news report stated that it was one of the most dangerous sports due to the pyramids that they do. They fall on the hard floor and receive serious injuries.

Maybe the reason they don't cheer on the tennis team is because GREEN COUNTY DOESN'T HAVE A TENNIS TEAM!!!!

Daily Horoscope for December 31

Pisces

Someone is extremely headstrong and defiant today, and there's every chance that you're the one fitting this description. The more others are trying to make you behave yourself or do what they want, the more determined you'll be to do the exact opposite. Well, it is a Full Moon, and a lunar eclipse in emotional Cancer, so you're excused! Show them that you're an individual in your own right without going completely overboard about it, because that will cause trouble. Then once you've got all that off your chest you can relax and look forward to a really Happy New Year!
