Once again, the weather is turning colder and the ads are appearing for these "Miracle Heaters".

Edenpure, iHeat, Amish, HeatSurge, Roll-N-Glo...

All of them, they are purely scam.

Please do not fall for these absurdly priced scams. Quite a few folks right here in Greensburg have been victim of these, and a few local retailers insist on pushing them on the unknowing public.

$20-$40 Heaters from Don's, WalMart, and Dollar General will do the exact same job as these $300-$400 "Miracles".

If you need a recommendation for a good cheap space heater, my personal favorites are the "MilkHouse" style metal space heaters. They are available most places for around $20. If you need serious heat, Don's has a very nice 220-Volt model for $99 right now.

If anyone needs technical explanation as to why these heaters are a scam, I'll be happy to go into that if this thread warrants it. But for now I just wanted to get this out there, it really pisses me off to see people taken like this.

I went from $250.00 month electric bill last winter to $80.00 month. I have reptiles and they must be kept warm. Best investment i've made in years. Why are heating units being switched to this technology if they don't work?

I agree with you 100%! We bought ours thru the mail before anyone around here started selling them local. It heats our huge finished basement & saves $$$$$$ on electric. When & if this one quits, I'll have another one as fast as I can drive to town to get it.
Do you think the person that started this forum knows how to turn the heater on?????????? lol

Does your "deer cabin" have electricity for the heater to run off of? If so, the EdenPure would heat it.........do you have windows? Door? Just asking.

1. I didnt say they dont work. On the contrary, they work very well. As does nearly any form of electric heater, given the specifications are the same.
2. What I did say is that they are absurdly over-priced.
3. "This Technology" That you speak of? It is quartz-infrared. Its been around for about 40+ years. Crack that Edenpure open if you dare. Its simply a 1500 Watt Quartz bulb. You can buy the same thing at Wal-Mart for $40. Except those ones actually let you see the light bulbs.
Heres the facts...
Standard household outlet is on 10-15 amp breaker.
Household outlets are 120 volts.
Ohms Law states Watts = Volts X Amps
120 Volts X 15 Amps = 1800 Watts
To keep things safe, you will almost never see a space heater of any kind rated over 1500 Watts.
Nearly all forms of electric heat are 100% efficient, producing a maximum of 5,100 BTU's.
$20 Walmart heaters are rated @ 5,000 BTU's
$300 Edenpure junk is rated @ 5,100 BTU's
Thats 15 TIMES more expsensive for the same output.
Would you pay $1,500 for a 5,000 BTU air conditioner??? No
The BTU's dont lie.
And your bill is lower because you are using heat where you need it, not wasting your central heat heating the whole house.

I have two of them and am very pleased. I have grandchildren that leave toys and things next to them. That would be very dangerous if they were regular electric heaters. My total gas bill last winter was $112.00. Has been around $2000.00. Electric bill went up around $100.00 per month. Never been sorry I bought them.

your right I specifically heat the area of the reptiles. Exactly like I did with the electric heater. Absolutely no difference except a drop fro. $250.00 a month to $80.00 a month. Seeing is believing and believe you me a $170.00 drop in electric bill is in fact believing. To each his own. Mass production has brought the price down by half in the last year.

Place in columbia sells them cheaper than anybody. People they r marked up 3 times more than what dealers pay for them. I kno i use to sell them 2 years ago so go shoppin around and make dealers jew with u. Even this the more dealers buy the cheaper they get. Dont let a dealer tell u there is not much of a mark up cause if they do they r lying through there teeth. A regular unit is just around 100.00 bucks so u do the math. Thanks and have a great day.....

"American Idiot" is telling you guys the truth. The things he/she is saying have been proven. Consumer reports tested the Edenpure against 20 or 30 others and rated it near the bottom, instead recommending a $80 competitor. The Dept. of Energy and various utilities have also come out against the bogus claims.

The info is on the Web. Just Google "edenpure scam" or "edenpure false claims".

Okay, not sure why it's inserting spaces into the link, but copy and paste the above into your browser's address bar and delete the spaces that have mysteriously inserted.

I am going on my fourth heater. Sent one back just after thanksgiving and they returned it 2 weeks later but they returned not my heater but what they called made in america heater. This thing will not even heat a 300sq ft room in a trailer to 68. With a the little idiot lights light and on high it barely gets to 64. Electric bill almost tripled during the month of dec and jan. This is really a piece of junk and the cost of returning the unit is around 28.00 and even though I am going to have to send this one back to the customer service said I would have to pay shipping on this. They told me some witches brew story about unplugging the unit and wait an hour and this will reset the thermostat. Well this did not work either. Their customer service needs a little help also. It basically sucks. I think a class action suit by all the people that have been taken by this company and the claims that they make is in order.

They need to stop making them in america because the overseas units are far superior to the ones that are being made in america. The overseas ones have the control buttons running horizontal and the ones that are made in america have the control buttons running vertical.

I bought one and the heater was only use when we went up to the cabin. We have gas forced air heat but used this in the basement. Well as ecpected it would not work last month when we went up to the cabin. I wrote to them today and they said nothing they could do since it ran out of its warrantee last month. Very expencive heater that works no better than any other and at three times the cost. JUST A SCAM!

I bought a cheaper one on ebay (paid $125.00 shipped). It does as good job as I expected any other to do. Heats my basement fine. And I saved
275.00 or more. Check it out, they are for sale at a lot of places at a better price than here in Greensburg. Just got to look.
