Search; Castrati Singers (Spain)
These poor little 7 to 9 year old Choir Boys were for all practical purposes bought from their dirt poor Catholic parents, taken to the Local Catholic Church, held down and forcibly castrated by priests, to keep their voices from changing in puberty.
If their voice changed in spite of the surgery, they were summarily dismissed and sent home sans testicles. Many of the Choir Boys bled to death under the knives of the Priests or died later from infections arising from the crude, unsanitary, horrific surgeries.
This went on for centuries because the Popes decreed that women were to remain silent in the Church, and that included singing. That Decree left the Church Choirs unable to hit the high notes, so the Pope authorized the castration of Choir Boys to fill the void.
This horrible mutilation, pain, death, and suffering was visited on these unwilling, innocent little boys soley for the listening pleasure of the Catholic Clergy and the Church Crowd.
This despicable practice ended very late in the 1800's, and a few Castratos were recorded singing in the 1930's.
Read about the fiery Hatred these Castratos had for their own Catholic parents for selling them to the Church.
One adult Castrato Singer who got rich singing outside the Church was approached by his dirt poor parents and asked for money. He Stormed, "You got YOUR money, now get out!" And out they went without a penny.
