This is a case of too little too late. Minimal front page coverage after the win, didn't identify the names of the players in the crummy coverage they did have, and mislabeled players earlier last week.

"Greensburg Athletic Director Bill Edwards told the Daily News team members will be recognized in a special ceremony at City Hall Monday, April 1, during the monthly Greensburg Common Council meeting. That meeting begins at 7 p.m. Two days later, the victorious Pirates will be honored with a parade around the city which will lead into (an undoubtedly raucous) community championship celebration in the GCHS gymnasium."

Gee. It takes a week to celebrate? Wasn't there sirens? Wasn't there church bells? And no bonfire? No Victory Bell?

What the hell is wrong with that town?

I agree. These players work hard and represented our town and did a hell of a job at it. The event and win took place that day so should have the celebration. I personally am proud to live in the town where the boys basketball team took it to state and then claimed a victory. No other team can say that this year. It's big news. It seems this town likes to advertise the bad news and not celebrate and recognize the GREAT news. Sometimes people need to focus on good things to overcome all the bad in this world. And I feel like the town failed at that. Greensburg basketball teams and coachs and fans all did a great job. Maybe the mayor needs to rethink his duties..As well as some others in this town that think they have some say so..

Tomorrow, there will be a picture in the paper with caption of the mayor making a lofty proclamation and awarding the keys to the city.

There was sirens, the night that they came home. Along with a line of fans on Lincoln street, and as well at the gym waiting for them. They had fire trucks, ambulances, sheriff car, and police cars as well. The reason that they waited until April 3rd for their parade was because it was spring break and they felt it was only fair for the whole community to celebrate their win even if they didn't attend the state game.

What if you don't live in Greensburg, don't get its paper, and don't normally go the newspaper's or WTRE's website? Is it fair to ask for details on this site?

Nobody Important, it is over now. If you dont live in the town, dont get the paper and dont check the local radio stations website, then why in the hell would you care about the damn parade or pep rally? And if you really did care then when old news made their post you could have checked the websites to find out the information for yourself!
I myself think that it was nice that they included the whole community. They did win during spring break and they did get back late. Us with small children couldnt get them out that late at night. So for them to consider the rest of the community by having it today at 6 pm was very considerate of them!

Believe it or not, I do like to come to my hometown from time to time. In fact, I stood in that line to buy tickets and sat in the nosebleed section at the game, along with a number of other Greensburg people I know and recognize. I even wore a royal blue shirt.

So in accordance with your view, why in the hell should I have cared about the damned game or whether Greensburg even won the state championship?

And in accordance to your view, Rick, I ought to be saying that Greensburg can go to hell. Instead, I'll just say YOU can go to hell. The town would be better off without your kind.

Just a word to Nopo - why do you expect to get your Greensburg news from Topix? Why not simply visit the sites you were directed to? Makes sense to me. I am sure the vast majority of decent Gburg fans do not even know about Topix and do not rely on this site for the news and upcoming events of Greensburg.

On a side note, the post titled "drugs" (don't ask me why) is about those championship players. I have heard those comments before. Seems not everyone is so excited about honoring the players.

does ur computer only have access to topix? for someone who is so intimately involved in their hometown I would think you would have bookmarked the local media sites.

I thought all the political stuff at last nights pep rally was more self serving to the numerous politicians instead of the state championship team. Who cares what Luke Messer had to say? How many games did he attend this year anyway? Herbert talked way too long as well! Talking about God and the like? I thought it was a pep rally not a forum on religion in public schools! The funny thing is not one player said the first word or got the chance to speak! So why did we all have to listen to a bunch political crap and honor them instead of listening to and honoring the team? I thought the city purchasing the players plaques was nice but could of done without all the politicians comments and photo oops!

I am posting this video (part 1) of the City Council meeting on here so that anyone who would like to see our State Champion Pirate Basketball team receive a plaque and Congratulations from our Mayor and City Council can do so.

VIDEO:

PART 1 OF 3 : http://youtu.be/j3pik76tDkY

I would like to add that I for one am happy to hear that our Mayor is not afraid to speak about our God. Kudo's to him for doing so.

We are all very , very , proud of our pirates for their hard work in winning this state championship but we must all remember that God gave them the talent to do so.
