INDIANAPOLIS (WISH)- The man who died following a fiery crash Wednesday evening in Decatur County has been identified as 49-year-old Dennis Crowe of Greensburg.

Deputies arrived to find a car fully engulfed at the intersection of Base Road and County Road 550W, according to The Decatur County Sheriff.

For reasons unknown, officials say, the vehicle began to veer off the road. They also believe the driver over-corrected, and the car slid into a ditch.

Witnesses say that the car caught fire after sitting in the ditch for some time. Onlookers noticed Crowe sitting in the car slumped over.
An attempt to get him out the car proved to be unsuccessful due to the high heat and flames.

Preliminary autopsy results show that Crowe died from smoke inhalation and burns

This is a very tragic. But I don't understand how he was just sitting in his car slumped over from just sliding into a ditch. How could he not just get out of the car after smelled smoke? Why was he passed out? This story sounds really fishy.

well Jessy, the people who were to drive by and notice him slupmed over the wheel, that happened to be my dad... and u think he should feel like shit, well he does, One thing you should know is Dennis Crow did teach at North Decatur, as a matter of fact he was my teacher when I went to North, I graduated in 1994, He was a great sience teacher and coach, Just last Year he resigned from the school because he came to teach and had alcohol on his breath during school hours, was taken in to be breathalized and failed, suspended and made a fool after teaching 20+ years. Now the car deal it was dark my dad came driving up on a car that was engolfed in flames, he and a friend tried very hard to get him out as flames were hot and when the car door got opened it was seconds the car burst in flames. My dad could had lost his life helping in this incident, who really knows Y he was slupmed over the wheel? It be nice to rule out he was drunk? Cuz the way it looked he went off once side of road overcorrected went to the other side and skinned the ditch couldnt get out of it his car bottomed out and if in fact he had a heart attack, stroke, or just drunk he passed out and slumped over with the car runing and the exhaust must had caught the grass on fire in return caught the car on fire!

Well Alberta has some good points. Already engulfed when found is different than someone driving by and calling it in and not stopping, before that. I also wonder, why would someone slump over the wheel, after such a minor incident. A medical problem prior? Or impairment.

Yes Tornado your right although my dad is the one whom found the car and called it in as well as the one whom had to feel like shit because he couldn't save the teacher, because the car engulfed in flames, no one has heard a word yet as to why he ended up like that? It sure would have been nice to hear medical problem or impairment of some type??? Usually nobody ever gets the end of the story when somethin such as this happens!
