I am sick and tired of hearing about these accidents involving cyclists. Obviously the problem is the cyclists. They think they own the road because they have the right away. What a stupid law. You have a 2,000lb plus vehicle vs bicycle/person. The math ain't too hard on this. I hate cyclists!!! Either the state needs to make the roads wide enough for bicyclists, or charge the bicyclists for causing an accident. Go ahead and judge and make bad comments about my post, but its freedom of speech!

Maybe we should have a law against ignorance, Mandy!

I'm glad Ms. Sink wasn't injured in the accident. You know how vicious and destructive them bicycles are. Why once, I saw one derail a 100 car train.

her difference of opinion from yours does not make her ignorant...it is quite presumptuous for you to think so...at any rate, i agree with her....i have a right to jump off my house or to poke myself in the eye with a sharp stick, but i choose not to since it would be foolish to do so...if these bikers continue to exercise their 'rights', they will continue to pay the price...

Dude,
I agree just because it's legal does not mean that it's safe to ride bikes any where at any time.

The accident happened at 7:45 AM this is when folks are rushing to get to work on time and the cyclist killed was from Winton-Salem off of his turf. I can only assume that they were riding early in the morning to beat the midday heat.

Cyclists from Winston-Salem/Forsyth Co. take over the side roads here in Yadkin Co. on the weekends in particular riding up to 15 20 in a group on winding roads with little visability for drivers coming up on them running 45-55 MPH. I have seen a motorcycle traveling over 150 MPH on one of these favored bike routes and an elderly driver running over 80 MPH in the left hand lane.

It is only a matter of time until more accidents like this happen. Too many risk takers daring the odds of getting run over by a larger faster vehicle.

Sorry for the Cyclist's family's loss.

I think people secretly hate bicyclists because they wish they had the strength and determination they have. Not only do they not use fossil fuels while riding, they are bettering their health so they are not taxing on the health care system. People who have something against bicyclists probably wish they could get off their lazy butts and work out once in a while, but take their aggression out on the people they wish they could be. I think there should be more bicyclist out on the roads if you ask me..maybe America wouldn't be the "fat and lazy" nation that it is known to be... Just *my* opinion, since I am entitled to my own freedom of speech, especially since I served in the military and defended my right to do so.

Oh and yeah, when you gripe, have some consideration for the mourning families. These are actual human beings that you are talking about, and they have family members that love them and are experiencing a great loss. I am sure that if this was someone you cared about you wouldn't appreciate someone ranting in such a manner. Have some respect.

i quite openly dislike bicyclists because they are a road hazard and are an accident waiting to happen...i certainly do not want to join the ranks of road bicyclists who selfishly and foolishly choose to endanger themselves and those around them, because they by golly have the 'right' to...thank you for defending the right of all Americans, including the selfish and foolish, to make choices...in the case of some of bicyclists, your service was not a sufficient price to pay...several lately have continued to pay even more dearly for their right...

Yes Mandy, Free speech you are right, but we also have the RIGHT to ride a bike on the road, just as well as you a motorist. Question to you...Have you Every read or heard a story of a cyclists, running out in the road and causing an accident? I myself never have, but I have heard 100s of story of a motorist drivers texting, calling changing the radio, or whatever taking their eyes on the road. REMEMBER this is a life that was taken away. He was a son and a father, a husband.

I continue to be shocked regarding the lack of compassion towards our fellow man. We must all remember that cyclists are fathers, mothers, children, friends, etc. Cyclists are on the roads to enjoy the ride, to exercise, for transportation, to train for races..the reasons are numerous. They are not there to "take risks" or to purposely impede motorists. I will never quite understand the hate that some motorists seem to have for cyclists. We all need to respect each other on the roads. Motorists: please slow down, give the cyclist 3 feet as you pass, don't throw objects, honk horns, or give them a warning bump. Cyclists: obey traffic laws, ride single file, wear helmets, bike smart. Perhaps the best rule to follow here is the golden one. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

In another news article it said that the bicyclists were where they were supposed to be riding single file. They were doing what they were supposed to be doing, and Sink claims she was "not impaired, she was just not paying attention." As Sgt. Feinberg claims. So if she was not paying attention, while operating a motor vehicle, who really is the "road hazard"?? Gee. Operating a 2000+ pound vehicle going at high rates of speed would require the driver to at least "pay attention." But of course, its the biker's fault because they happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time...aka Ms. Sink's path while she was driving.

O.k. For all those who haven't any intelligence.

My comment was because of the stupidity of the comment that the driver of the vehicle wasn't hurt.

I just don't know who is dumber. The statement that she wasn't hurt, or the people that didn't understand that and took offense at what I said.

Let me get this straight. One vehicle hits TWO legally operating vehicles from the back, killing one vehicle operator and sending the other to the hospital with critical injuries and the fault is with the TWO vehicles that were being operated in accordance with the laws, because they were moving at a lesser speed than the posted limit and "got in the way" of the vehicle that hit them from behind.

I have seen pretzels that were less twisted than that.

When car drivers can learn how not to hit things on the road in front of them, then they can drive the roads. This person should never drive again in her life. Or her next life either.

First I am sorry for the cyclist and their family, but I have to agree not only NC but the whole US needs to do something about the cyclist. Either extend the road for a bike lane or make them have to obey the rules. If they cant go the speed limit maybe go to a park or somewhere that has a speed limit they can do. They do not pay for property taxes for their bike nor do they have to renew their tags or get their bikes inspected every year like someone that drives a vehicle does.

someone driving with no licenses is as bad as a drunk. We should do like some country's start cutting hands off and they can never drive again.Or do unto those the same way they did to the person they killed and people would stop all this crime. Not a slap on the waist
