I have read the article and I cannot belive that they did not see anything wrong with this. Even those who worked in the assembly line :: they did not even mention and say :; "hey we don;t have to name the doll : as it is this world is already in for a rude awaking. I am so gald that this never got over. please . check any items. that are open for the public. Make something they can learn from. even the folks that work there I know they were shocked ;;; right in frount of their face. they need to have CNN .. go and interview them. and show that over and over. Like they do to other folks.

READ THIS BEFORE POSTING: there are multiple versions of this doll. I work at Costco and saw them first hand. Our building had 4 versions: 2 white babies, 2 black babies. Both either had a Panda or a Monky, and BOTH said either 'lil monky' or 'lil panda' upon the bib and head warmer. This news clip is BS and is only trying to get a rise out of the misinformed public.

did Al Sharpmouth and Jesse Jacka$$ investigate this, as I see stereotypical BS all over this report, of course Costco did what any big store would have done, because the religious black leaders would demand that action be taken and the news media would run to cover and report it. If we all would stop listening to these civil rights whinners then we can move on to real issues like gang violence and teen crimes that are out of control, the black community has turned they're backs on they're youth and expect the tax payers to pay for feel good programs to solve it. I say more jails and hard, hard time for these troubled youths of all races, they must go to the school of hard knocks to get they're education.

I wonder what would have happened if Cosco carried a "European" baby doll with a pet parrot and crackers that could be fed to the parrot and the baby doll; Or maybe , just maybe the baby doll had a cute little head band that read "Lil Cracker" neatly around its cute little head? What if this had been the case? Brass Key Company (maker of the lil monkey doll, you ought to be ashamed of yourself for even allowing this one to go beyond the design stage.

This is ridiculous. It's a doll baby. I can't understand why some of feel the need to turn everything into a racial issue. It's a baby doll with a monkey for goodness sake.

Spoken like a true caucasian in denial! RACISM does still exist. I can't believe that they Costco employees who shelved the doll did not notice the offensive lingo. Wait, let me guess, they were also caucasian! I am a highly educated black female and have some very close caucasian friends and even they thought it was crossing the border. Wake up and smell the coffee Gabrielle, as long as people like you are in denial, the real racists will continue to push the envelope. If you had a beautiful black daughter, would you want her to play with a doll that depicts her as a monkey? My guess, is NO!

In GREENSBORO, NC, when the dolls arrived at Costco and were put on the floor there were NO Black dolls in a "cute panda" outfit.I looked through the entire display. Just because you are insensitive does not make an insult "ok". I really do not care if there were purple dolls that said "lil monkey" on them, I do not think any human should be compared to a monkey especially because I aware of the ugly history of the matter.

I definitely believe it was an attack that targets black girls. If it wasn't why didn't they make it a white doll and name it little monkey. Would it be offensive then? It was a way to sugar coat a racial slur and I do not like it at all!!! I am sure the doll maker could have come up with a better name than lil monkey for a doll.. It was in my opinion a bad choice! Yes! it is highly offensive and costco should never have put this thing on their shelves. It was the result of very poor choices on the part of the makers and costco. They should investigate and research these things before it goes on their shelves. Very Poor decision making.

it does not have to racial but it is wrong. Years ago and still now sometimes black children and adults where called monkeys that is offensive to african american. If you ar not african you would not understand. There are many black dolls out here why did they have to name it lil monkey, they might not of thought about when they did it but they should have that is a very offensive word toward african american.

It's disgusting that people always seems to look for ANY excuse to pull the over used proverbial "race card". How do you think the last election became so popular? People that probably never voted or had any motivation to get off their bum to go vote for whitey, suddenly arrived in masses, to vote for the first "Black" president. That's all we heard for months and was the biggest topic of discussion for months on any of the news channels. Not that a "Man" was elected, but a "Black" man. I think the media thrives on crap like this, it helps fuel the flames of an issue that is more than played out for all intents and purposes. I don't care how many educated or uneducated blacks want to say there is still discrimination. It's only an issue, because you keep making it an issue. Myself, as an educated whitey, along with most of us other whiteys, are sick and tried of hearing all this racial inequality propaganda you spread at the drop of a hat. Your as bad, if not worse that the Neo Nazi Skinhead hate mongers. There's just a whole lot more of you, beating a dead horse over and over. It's almost 2010 for heavens sake, and there is a "Black" man in the White House, voted in by plenty of us crackers, so I'm curious, which of you were actually slaves, your parents, grandparents? Have you ever even met a slave? Get where I'm going with this? You have every opportunity and every civil right and civil liberty, as every other American does in this country, whether they are black, white, pink, yellow, brown, or red. You can even become president. So get over yourselves and move on with more important issues than trying to drum up a can of worms that's irrelevant and does not for all intents and purposes exist. You've run out of excuses! The next time you think you've been wronged, think of the Native Americans that were slaughtered by the thousands and shoved onto reservations...where they still live TODAY! These are the people that were screwed and that we should feel we owe something to. Put that in your peace pipe and smoke it!

This comment is directed to 187 airborneinfan try.. So you think that because Mr. Obama was voted in office as president, racism does not exist? How blind are you! Yes, he won by a landslide, however, there is still a large population of Americans that dislike blacks and will go to any means to prove it. I don't expect any caucasian to ever understand. Until you have never been in a longterm minority position, save your "don't fuel the flames" speech for your white friends. I don't need to meet a slave to know that slavery existed and the reprocussions have yet to dissapate. I agree that it was a travesty how the Native Americans were treated. However, they were granted their own land and government to run any way they choose. On the other hand, MILLIONS of blacks were shackled, beaten, and dragged away from their families only to come to America and be slaves for both Europeans AND Native Americans (yes, they had slaves as well). When it ended, we weren't given land, money, or even the prospect of a descent education. The hatred continued, hundreds of years later, remember MLK? He wasn't marching for fun, he was marching for racial equality and that was in the 60's. Bring it up to the year 2009, "You lie!" When have you ever know a caucasian president to be disrespected so badly during a senate hearing? Chances are, never. Considering the history of calling blacks, monkeys, can you honestly say it was a wise choice to name a black doll lil monkey? They say there was a white doll as well, and to that I say "Prove it" I have yet to see any pictures of her white counterpart. You "whiteys that are sick of hearing all this racial inequality propaganda" need to stay away from those of us that are dealing with the issue head on. Just find some nice beach to continue to burry your head and we'll come find you when it's all over.

Many different groups (not just blacks - AMAZING but true!) have been enslaved throughout history. The difference is that other groups can move on, but the blacks just keep whining with their hands out.
