It's about time they try something that doesn't involve dumbing down or learning Spanish. In a day and age where the message that has been failing has been "We're All The Same", it's about time that DIFFERENCES are taken into account and acted upon accordingly. Perhaps now teachers can concentrate on methodologies that actually WORK instead of using the schools as social experimentation laboratories effectively robbing our children of successful productive futures by not teaching them skills they will actually NEED.

I went to a private high school for a few years, and though we were rowdy at times, most of the times we paid attention, did our work and save the goofing off till after class.

My last junior and senior years were at a public high school and I was beside myself witnessing the immaturity of EVERYONE.

No surprise. Six of my 12 gradeschool years were in private school.

In private school, it's their way or the highway...

In public school, it's Please Cooperate or we'll send you to another school that will repeat the plea...continue until all schools are played out...

I DON'T BELIEVE SEPARATING BOYS FROM GIRLS ARE GOING TO DO IT.YOU HAVE TO START FROM THE HOUSE AND WORK WAY TO SCHOOL /PUT PRAYER BACK IN AND BELTS BACK IN THE HANDS AND THINGS WILL CHANGE.

True that separating by sexes isn't a complete solution, but it's a positive start. Much more so than "Fuzzy Math", "Whole Word" language, or the emphasis on "Self Esteem".

As for prayer in the schools, I don't think that will help as much as would removing what seems to by a systemic undervaluation, if not outright ban, on Judeo-Christian religious expression throughout America. Surely I'm not the only one who has noticed that virtually every other religious expression seems to get a free pass (if not outright celebration) whereas Christianity (in it's various forms) is subject to suppression/repression and ridicule?[FYI: I am *not* an adherant to any of the "major" organized religions, so my personal religious belief has not prejudiced me in favor of Christianity or any of it's sects/expressions]

I will also agree that discipline, personal responsibility, and accountability *must* be reintroduced to not just the American home, but also the schools. I'm not sure I would go so far as the use of belts, but the current state of affairs is definitely not working nor improving. How much more proof do we need that "Spare the rod, spoil the child" is a Truth, however oversimplified?
