Residents divided about development plan
A controversial $90-million, 172-unit housing development with a combination of luxury apartments and condos has received a mixed reaction from Island Park residents.

The original plan was for 72 owned condos and no rentals. There are only 400+ homes on Harbor Isle and adding 170 units of any type of housing is too much. Harbor Isle is located in the town of Hempstead and not part of the Incorporated Village of Island Park. Harbor Isle has no housing needs; the Village does. They had tremendous damage from hurricane sandy. If 140 rental units are needed and can actually be rented, then the units should be built in the village. Perhaps on Long Beach Road where so many small businesses have closed. Thats a perfect area for rezoning. Nobody forced Posillico to buy the old oil field on Harbor Isle and he has owned it for many years without doing any cleanup. Let him wait until the housing market comes up again and propose a smaller number of units without rentals, instead of allowing him to bully us into an undesirable aggreement.
