My little sisters bat- mitzvah was suposed to be in September. my Parents had signed a contract, asked numerous times if they were going to stop having parties there, they kept denying it and saying we were fine. One week ago today, we get a message on our machine saying they need to talk to my parents in regard to my sisters party. They cancelled on us and said they'd give us our money back and help us find another place, places we had no interest it. We have to sign yet another contract to get our money back, but the contract won't let us sue so Rhonda doesnt ruin her reputation. They've ruined parties for obviously many, thank god we were lucky enough to find a nice place that is honoring the price the townhouse was giving us, and the date was still opened. I've heard of them cancelling peoples parties that were in April. It's just kind of rediculous they couldnt give more notice when they knew they were selling in 2005.

With all the party`s booked & signed contracts for people events.Rhonda Silver and the other owners of the Huntington Townhouse should make good on all contracts.
The Huntington Townhouse owners should pay for all the contracts for these events and then some...
These owners knew they were selling the townhouse.

I wish that one of the people who has paid and signed a contract to have their party at the Huntington Townhouse, sued them 35 MILLION DOLLARS OF BREACH OF CONTRACT..........

The place was old and it smelled disgusting! Rona is a rich, obnoxious woman who only cares about herself. I went to a wedding there a few months back - the food wasn't even edible and the place smelled like mold!! Sorry so many people are going to be inconvenienced, but they did you a favor! The place needs to ripped down.

Poor retired couple whose son is a lawyer-sounds very senstionalized shame shame-Courts are so full of these bogus lawsuits that we cannot concentrate on the real criminals and keep our children safe!

How is it sensationalized to report that a retired couple bamboozled into paying in full well over a year in advance happens to have a son who is an attorney and is going to protect their interests? And do not tell me that paying in full froze the price. A close family member of mine booked a Long Island temple for her son's bar mitzvah 2 1/2 years in advance and all they took was a $500.00 deposit. They honored the price 2 1/2 years later. Same thing for another close family member's wedding booked 8 months in advance. How is it bogus for these people to simply be refunded their money and paid their increased costs due to the owner's reneging on a deal? Surely if they canceled the party only 2-3 months in advance, HTH would not have returned the money to them...

It may well be that when your party was booked, the contract was in negotiations, but not signed, or maybe the property was on the market with no takers yet. BUT THAT IS NO EXCUSE for either (1) honoring contracts through at least the end of this year or (2) paying people's increased costs due to their decision to breach contracts. I have personal friends whose April party was canceled out from under them less than two weeks ago.

It's time that Newsday stops allowing lawyers to write feature stories. Moving a granddaughter's "party" from one caterer to another is not such a traumatic event that it should cause a normal 12-year-old to "shake..crumble in her chair and shrink."
Smart parents and grandparents should do everything in their power to keep 12-year-olds away from the legal system and handle life's problems as adults. If this matter is really only over $1,800 I'm sure both parties can work out a settlement without the additional drama of Uncle Lawyers and "fixed income" grandparents sensationalizing the facts.

My wedding ceremony and reception were to be at the Townhouse in May and we got news about 3 weeks ago that ours was cancelled. Luckily we found a very nice place to have it, but they couldn't honor the price we had at the Townhouse. We're paying almost $15 more per person after taxes and gratuity, but they were nice enough to throw in a few extras for free to help keep our extra expenses down. Rhona is greedy and her sons are just as bad. If it weren't for the horrible inconvenience and stress this is causing so many people I would say good riddance!

Rhona is offering a refund of the deposit, only, so long as the former customer signs a release. She will not pay the difference in the increased catering costs. She is accusing former customers of adding extras to their replacement catering contracts, when such is not the case. She also recommended caterers to former customers, which caterers were typically more costly and sometimes double the price contracted for with HTH.

By the way, Rhona lives in an 8,000 square foot house in Hewlett, where she pays in excess of $60,000.00 a year in school and real estate taxes. Until earlier this month, she was in litigation with an oil company over an unpaid $87,000.00 oil bill. She is in litigation with her former attorneys with regard to a 7-figure legal bill over one of her busted deals to sell HTH, as well as with someone else with the last name Silver (ex-husband or other relative, possibly) and with Elliot Hurdy, her former significant other, who formerly worked at HTH.

No one should be crying for Rhona

I almost feel sorry for Rhona. Her ex-and partner in the Townhouse is a real sleeze. He's been running a prostitution ring with a bunch of crack adicts and wanna be rap stars right here in Huntington. You should see the way he ran down a house he was renting. That bastard owes lots of people money!!! Unfortunately, many people with reservations at the Townhouse were taken, but if you knew the man behind the scenes, you might have more sympathy for Rhona.

I have known Elliot Hurdy for many years, and it is an absolute shame what he has had to endure the past two years. He was a faithful partner, and has gone out of his way on many occasions to help people, regardless of color, religion, or status in life.

I am proud to call him my friend.

Elliot is one of the nicest human beings i have ever met in my life. He has donated large amounts of money from his pocket and the other money he has raised doing work for the community and for a variety of charities. Since then he has become very successful in his new business ventures. The world needs more good hearted and selfless people like Elliot Hurdy. As far as rumers go, the man has many outreach programs to help people in our society.
