What is wrong with the Greenlawn community. The department is asking just to renew a bond so they can update an outdated control room so they can be more efficient. Maybe all Greenlawn VOLUNTEERS should boycott calls for a week and see how this town falls apart. I am disappointed in my town. These men and women spend so much of their time giving to our community and all you do is complain. Maybe the people who are making phone calls to veto this bond should try getting up in the middle of night to help the sick and injured.

If the good residences of Greenlawn would of read the paper they would of seen the notice of the bond and the announcement of the meeting that was held on 7/22 for the community. I really doubt they were trying to hide a bond vote from the community so they can update their equipment.

I think this is absurd. I'm tired of these guys never notifying anybody of any type of vote. You put it in the Long Islander? Oh ok, give me a break. Notify the public please! They don't want the public to know, they only want those they know to be notified to vote to get it passed.
Well, I hope it goes down as the taxes here are absurd. And the next time I pass by and seeing all these guys "working" as they drink their beers, hang out and all on the taxpayers dollar. And please don't tell me its all voluntary, there are tons of perks, tax write offs and incentives so please save me your argument for its voluntary. Have another meal and drink on the taxpayers! I am voting no and bringing alot of people with me to vote no

You are so ingorant. This is a renewal of a bond so there will be no increase in taxes. Bring as many people as you want but you are only hurting yourselves.
Hope you dont need them one day.

Maybe there are "tons of perks, tax write offs and incentives". So what? These are people volunteering their time for you! Actually you sound jealous. Why not join a fire department yourself?

Add it all up. Your so-called benefits probably workout to a salary of about 50 cents an hour.

This sneak vote comes out on the 22nd and gets voted on 5 days later. Who reads the Long Islander, I don't. I guess i should be reading it so I can see when I am about to get screwed. What bullshit. If they need a new control room and generator blah blah blah they should have thought about it the last time they built that palace. And that was some fiasco if any of you remember. I am not interested in spending one cent towards anything new and if I can save by not renewing this bond then that's for me. Enough School tax, enough Libraries, enough Firehouses... Enough. If I didn't pick up newsday I never would have known about it. I love to see all the volunteers turning out with their kids and their families all smiling. Well these must be the same people voting school budgets through year after year. I hope you like your kids alot, they will be living with you for a long time because by the time they finish college they wont be able to afford to live any where but with you. All thanks to the mass of block heads that live here on long Island. I am a city firefighter and I dont care if my house burns to the ground I'll build a new one. Any volunteer who is also a city firefighter you are screwing yourself financially. Why give us a raise when they are out there doing it for free. Dumbies. Taxes just keep going up, the way to stop it is right in front of you vote "no" on firehouse bs "no" on schools budgets "no" on everything for a change.

If I place an obscure ad in the Long Islander, can I expect people to give me $900,000 by default if they don't see it?

Let's just say we're sick and tired of greedy firemen and their incessant pleas for MORE MORE MORE --- the last bond vote for that ridiculously large firehouse was hjeld in the midst of a blizzard.
BTW, just why the heck does a department covering an area where the tallest building is under 30 feet high require a ONE HUNDRED FOOT ladder truck?? Volunteers get a state penson after 5 years service, you know. Long Island would be better off with municipal fire departments -- you don't need a firehouse every 30 feet.
