When you are young, it seems like you are invincible. I'm so sorry for the family and friends of this young man. We all have done things like this when we were young and fortunately most young people survive. I am so sorry for your loss. I'm sure he was a fine young man whom you all loved dearly. I am so sorry.

I am appalled by Mr. Ward's statement. What a cold heart. He must not love anyone. I hope the people of Highland county remember his statement when election time comes along. What a crude man!!!

Get a grip people, the man is speaking the truth. This politically correct BS is what gets people killed. It's a tragedy and sugar coating the truth isn't helping anyone.I too have a 19 year old son who's been to Monroe Falls to cliff jump, I pray that this is lesson for my son as well as all young people out there. I wish that somehow we can bring Andrew back, and I sympathize with his family so please don't think I'm being heartless...Just want to get the point across...Parents aren't suppose to out live their children.

I think he should have said what he did but maybe selected his words. If that was my son and the sheriff said that I would have been extremly upset.

Why would anyone swim in a place called Rattlesnake Creek? Were Snapping Turtle Pond and Alligator Bay to crowded?
This creek was named over a hundred years ago. previously called Rattlesnake Rattlesnake Creek is a tributary of Paint Creek, 42.3 mi (68.1 km) long, in south-central Ohio in the United States. Via Paint Creek and the Scioto and Ohio Rivers, it is part of the watershed of the Mississippi River, draining an area of 277 mi²(717 km²). According to the Geographic Names Information System, it has also been known historically as "Rattlesnake Fork."
Rattlesnake Creek rises near South Solon in southwestern Madison County, and flows generally southeastwardly through Fayette, Clinton and Highland Counties, past the town of Octa. It joins Paint Creek in Paint Creek State Park as an arm of Paint Creek Lake, 5 mi (8 km) south of Greenfield.

Parts of the creek flow through rapids; three miles in Highland County have been rated Class II (IV) whitewater rapids
Fork.

I CAN'T BELIEVE THE SHERIFF WOULD MAKE SUCH A TERRIBLE AND UNFEELING REMARK for that poor family to read after loosing their son. How would he like it if it was his child. GOOD JOB Sheriff. We will remember your caring attitude at election time!

The quote was made after a death, and he said to find your body, not to keep you safe, Kids do dumb things. Smart ass comments don't impress them. Did they impress you when you were young?

My heart goes out to the family of this young man. As a resident of Highland county, i know that this is not the first tragic accident involving young adults. I noticed so many harsh words towards Mr. Ward. Can i ask you this, Did any of you stop to think that maybe he has a point behind his statement? I'm more than sure it wasn't to cause any hurt feelings. If you tell a teenager, "Hey if you take that pill it might kill you" What do you think their going to do? Take the pill! Vs. Telling them "If you take that, it WILL kill you" There is a better chance that they will back away from it. Teenagers are all risk takers. I believe he was trying to save another life from being lost. It's such a dangerous place and so many fail to recognize that.

Just sitting here thinking about Andrew's parents, and family, especially this time of year. I think of Andrew often, even though I didn't know him
