I can't believe I am saying this but I wish we had Dr. Parkins back. Kirk and Jones and that White Commissioner are getting under a lot of folks skin. Did you hear how unprofessional they both were when Mrs. Jones' new job and salary was brought out in the open. Oh yeah the Greeneville Sun forgot to cover that part of the meeting.

Keep Glenwood open, leave the wheel tax where it is and cut out athletics in all the elementary schools and high school.

I have to agree with you a 100%. Dr. Parkins where are you? He would have balanced this budget, and never thought about closing a school. I heard this evening that there is a new Greene County Schools Foundation, and that closing and consolidating schools is coming from that group. Only Dr. Kirk and Mr. Jones have met with them. They haven't shared their plans for the school system yet. Dr. Kirk and Jones are their front people. Makes sense, I wondered where out of the blue this came from. Well, there's a small group of people making plans to tell everybody else what's going to happen to Greene County Schools. Shove it down our throats whether we like it or not. If this is true...it needs to be made public, and those people named. Can anyone find out if this is true. Does anyone know any of the people on this foundation board?

YOu're also right. I was there with my kid, and they were totally unprofessional. YOu better believe it would have been in the paper if a parent had pointed a finger and told them to shut up.

How true, where is Dr. Joe??? He was not perfect but he never brought this kind of a mess to the table. Dr. Joe always presented a balanced budget to the county commission. He had to make some tough choices and tough decisions and he did it with his big boy britches on!

I get the feeling that this may "finally" be the last shoe to drop for Jones and this Kirk. Back door politics is one thing but back door politics when it comes to our communities is where the people draw the line.

He did make tough decisions. I would appreciate some of that honesty right now. You at least knew where you stood.

I just had to laugh at this...on a more serious note, not all teachers want a raise in taxes either. even though it would supposedly be for a raise. raising taxes is never a good idea.

I'm with you all the way good buddy. Only a few of the youngins get to play anyway. And they are always from the same families. Stop the presses on building CD field house. Maybe they can use the field houses for classrooms. I played sports in school and quite frankly it kept me from studying like I should have.

Yonna Jones has been give a job at the school central office and her salary is $40,000???? Most of us can only dream about retiring from or jobs after 30 years and getting: our insurance paid until we are 65; drawing a huge percent of our retirement and, on yeah, pocketing a big bonus to boot. I'm quite curious how many in Greene County get this when they retire. Then it would seem that the folks from Mosehim (Kirk, Jones and Jones) truly do take care of each other. Kirk finds Mrs. Jones a position in central office making $40,000. No wonder Jones is whispering in Kirk's ear. Makes you wonder what they will be up to next. And no you can't get my ip because all of this is true. Sorry if the truth hurts. I just don't understand how people get buy with this.
Who is looking out for the kids. Certainly not this board led by the Kirk and Jones duo.

First off I do not like Glenwood. I have nothing against small schools. But that particular school has poor education and teachers and poor management. So do I feel that it should be shut down? In the best interest of the children, yes! Do I believe in the tax hike. I would if I thought it would benefit anything, however I don't. I do believe that the school district is doing some dirty things. Simple example of making their own rules. Cell phones. They can take them till the end of the year unless you pay. If someone takes your property and refuses to give it back that is theft. But if the school board does it, its ok. I thought government trumped policy? So if they were will to bend rules so minor, what else are they willing to bend. I think since everyone believes they are managing the money improperly and they do work for the citizens of the county. Then we should demand an independent review of the funds and expenditures. Making this data available to the public for review. Then we can make decisions of what reform needs to be made at that time. This is a democracy not a dictatorship. And its time that we make it that again! And quit letting people get away with injustice's like this! Ban together and demand answers instead of fighting each other!

An independent review sounds good to me. People use to at least try and appear to be listening to the taxpayers. Not any more. Even the commissioners are getting brave. Bowers and Crum, unfortunately, can seem to give a view. That is the worst kind of politician cause you know they are just thinking about the political futures.

The parents of Greene county students and taxpayers should have never had the RIGHT TO VOTE for a superintendent TAKEN away! Why would Kirk care how mad parents and taxpayers are? She doesn't have to answer to them or earn their vote. She has job security and the taxpayers have to make up the difference for her screw ups. As far as the school board goes, that's nothing but a joke. Just a bunch of yes men, except Kathy Austin she is always the opposing vote on everything. If they want to aleve over crowding at some schools why don't they make kids go to the school in the district they live in? They would be amazed how many students would have to leave Mosheim, Doak and DeBusk. Used to you had to go to the school in your district. The need for ESP and athletes parents school hopping is why some schools became over crowded. Common sense would go a long way in solving some of the problems.

Boy....Everyone is so worried that larger schools will increase drug use and gangs......what do you think taking sports out of the schools will do? What will kids do? Lay around the house and eat.....No!!!!! They will find something to do and most likely it will be with the wrong crowd and get into things just because they are bored........Do you even have kids.....and I take it you never played sports

You are so right. Zoning is something the boards is supposed to look at regularly I'm told. Someone needs to ask to see if it's true that they used one time money for recurring expenses. And if those recurring expenses is all for raises and benefits. That's horrible management if it's so. I would go broke if I did that with my home budget. I don't mind giving more money to educate our children, but I can't see that what they have is going directly to benefit the children. Why give them more? I see a charter school coming to Greene County. That would be wonderful. Public schools wouldn't like the competetion. They'd lose.

Kids and parents don't care about sports like in my day. Kids are getting to lazy to practice and parents are to preoccupied with their own lives. I think a lot of folks are also to poor and don't really care about going to watch sports when so many children don't get a chance to even play. It's just not like it use to be. When only so few get to play I don't think parents are willing to spend their money on sports any more. As for being lazy, sports hasn't made kids lazy the world has made kids lazy. As for kids being bored and getting in to bad things sports no longer keeps their interest. I have actually heard kids say that sports is to hard (a bunch of spoiled brats).
