I have friends who live in Charter territory. Charter charges a higher rate for basic than Comcast.

Yea but charter has a locked in price and cheaper internet. VS comcast with thier promotions only to last 6 months or so then go to max price..do the math in the long run you save alot with charter especially if you bundle because of how long they lock the price for

Our local government made a deal with Comcast giving them exclusive cable rights in this county thus lining their pockets with money and screwing the people of Greene County. Competition for business is good. I do believe that contract with Crapcast runs out in a few years.

They're both too expensive. Get a Amazon Fire TV or Roku ($99 one time) and subscriptions to Netflix and Hulu Plus, both $7.99 a month and drop your land line to save a $100 or more a month if you bundle.

"Just Sayer" is correct. As part of the deal to buy Time Warner, Comcast traded all of East Tennessee to Charter as part of a huge cable swap nationwide.

because gville city council signed a contract with Comcast baring all other cable co's coming into this area, somebody is getting paid under the table to keep Comcast out, maybe the FBI should be called in to find them and prosecute whom ever is dirty on the council

Completely untrue. Charter or any other cable company could overbuild into Greeneville under the STATE franchise law, but they do not want to. Why?

Cable companies never overbuild each other because it just costs them both subscribers and gains them nothing.

Is there somewhere that says more about this? The link doesn't specify areas of tn, it just says some will switch to charter and some will be the new company.

If you want to risk a headache here is the entire deal in a PDF with all the details.

So it looks like we will be part of the new system that is still primarily owned by comcast? I think the other article said that charter would own a minority stake.

Charter will run it. It is a complex tax setup.
