Looks like our town made the Washington Post. And guess why? Because of our high level of poverty.

Personally, I love the mom who take a smoke of her cigarette while she's holding her newborn. Can't afford food for her children, but she can afford her cigarettes.

If you can't feed em, don't breed em.

I read that also & found it simply shocking. I cried for the hopeless situation many children are born into due to poverty & generations of dysfunction rendering their outlook very bleak.

I have said before that we have a vicious cycle of no jobs, hopelessness, people get hooked on drugs & alcohol & often steal to support their habit & then end up with felonies so even if there were jobs they probably would not qualify due to their felonies & inability to pass a drug test. Meanwhile, the community as a whole suffers due to having an uneducated workforce wherein industries won't grace us with their presence compounding hopelessness & joblessness. The tax base suffers where business lacks causing infrastructure issues which adds to reasons for businesses not coming here. A deficient tax base contributes to lacking educational funds which is apparent in an uneducated workforce.

Our leaders are failing us miserably. Members of our community need to get their acts together so we can all pull together to resolve our social ills & present our community more favorably so "things" will locate here. Businesses relocating overseas has caused many of these issues in towns & big cities across America.

We need to get our crap together in America before the entire nation is perceived as third world as our town seems to be depicted in the article!!!
