It had lingered on the market for YEARS at a staggering price given the amount of restoration required. She got it for pretty cheap & has the money to restore it right. She's also in great shape, especially for her age, so steps are probably a problem for people half her age, but not her!:) I'm glad someone is doing something constructive with the old structure laden with history.

Those boxwoods were severely overgrown. Once they are that far out of control it can be very difficult, if not impossible, to trim them back to a manageable state. Also, given the age & size of those things, it may have been necessary to remove them due to the root system & the fallout out of control roots cause. I don't know for sure, just speculating.:)

I'm sure it will be beautiful once enough time & money is spent lol ;)
My two cents

Unless you are the original Valentine Sevier, I can't see how it would be any of your business what they do. How would you like someone criticizing what you do to your house or yard? They paid for the house and grounds, so they can paint it purple and plow it up for all I care. That is, if the Historical Commission would allow it, and for the Mayor, they might.

No...I think someone was just interested & trying to make the connection as to why I post on the Greeneville topix, given that I live in Asheville. So, based on your post, I assume that you are not a Greenevillian, either. Where are you from? And, though we didn't date the same guy, I can certainly empathize with what you have described b/c my ex was also far less than honest, so we have that in common...c'est la vie...lol!!!

. In my opinion the beautiful old trees and classic boxwoods made this place. All the owners have now is an old house in the middle of Walter State Community College.. Why do they keep putting cheap plastic replacement windows in and then take them out?
And I can't understand leaving the old out of date and stinky curtains up. No taste! Money can't buy class.

I had walked the grounds a few times when it was for sale. Those trees and especially the ancient boxwoods gave the place a truly historical feel and just enough privacy so as not to feel like you have an audience everytime you step outside. For me, and many others I've talked to, the clearing of the grounds took away all the mystery and "old mansion" feel. That said, kudos to the new owners for saving the grand old home. Maybe some new boxwoods can be planted and a nice big fountain placed out in front. Done right, this old home could be fantastic.

The topic is the mayor's wife fixing up an old house, not your dating history! Go back to match.com !

There is a house like that here in Asheville...it's huge & very beautiful, but was REALLY run down... someone came along & did a great job fixing it up...however, it is still sitting there empty (not for sale) & has been for a few years...it baffles me.

Not sure exactly what you're asking??? If you're asking what I do in terms of work, I am currently in the process of interviewing with several companies...my career field is public relations/marketing/event planning.
