Who is spending all their money fixing the old house downtown on north main street and why? It will cost a fortune to fix it up. I hope they got estimates before they started. That aint nothing but a pocket with a hole in it.

Thanks! I have a feeling by what I saw that it's going to be one pet project she will probally regret. I do wish her luck, if that's want she and her husband want.

There is a house like that here in Asheville...it's huge & very beautiful, but was REALLY run down... someone came along & did a great job fixing it up...however, it is still sitting there empty (not for sale) & has been for a few years...it baffles me.

I don't get it! Andy and her husband are in their late sixties. There are no bedrooms down stairs, the back yard is a parking lot, and the house has to be gutted. I'm glad somebody was willing to invest their momey to fix it up but they will never get their money back and chances are it will never sell because young people have no interest in homes like that. They want homes with open space. It baffles me too! Each to their own.

Contrary to what too many people think, everything is not about money.

I agree, but can't see the point investing money, time, or effort on an old home that you don't have any intention of living in or selling, unless they plan to donate it to the historical society in their name as a legacy?!?!?

I understood that it WILL be their home. They love it.s history & the historical look & feel of it. I can understa.d that reasoning, if one can afford the luxury of owning a money pit. Fortu.ately for them, they can afford it.

I heard the same. Unless they plan to put an elevator in it, getting up and down the stairs as they get older will be a problem. The next generation will probally donate it to the community college. Chances are they don't want it. I also heard that he had nothing to do with it in the begining. She bought the house without informing him first. She has the money!

It had lingered on the market for YEARS at a staggering price given the amount of restoration required. She got it for pretty cheap & has the money to restore it right. She's also in great shape, especially for her age, so steps are probably a problem for people half her age, but not her!:) I'm glad someone is doing something constructive with the old structure laden with history.

Andy may be in good shape but I doubt if her husband is. I would venture to say that due to hidden constuction costs, they have already questioned their decision to buy the old house. But having said that "I like you am glad that someone was willing to take it on". Ching Ching!11

Again, everything does not revolve around money and the greed for money. Thank goodness some people make decisions that are independent of the desire for more money.

It's a lot easier to spend money on a project like this, when the money you have was inherited.

An ex of c.c. or g.c.(greene county}??? Regardless, I'm an ex of neither...I did date a guy briefly from Greeneville, which is how/why I originally stumbled across this topix site. I found the thread topics to be extremely amusing & befriended some of the posters on here, so I've stuck around. Hope that answered your question...

What is it that you find to be a coincidence & what is it that you think you know about me?!?!? If you don't have anything intelligent or interesting to write, keep your fingers off the keyboard so as to NOT look completely foolish!!! Now, have a good one...
